I already did a bunch of searches but I REALLY want to get the right RAM the first time for my new system. I decided to sit out on the AMD 64 and just go with a Pentium 3.0c for the time being. I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=20-145-442&DEPA=0 , which seems decent, but for $300 I was wondering if some of you RAM Gurus can point me in the right direction? I am looking to hit at least 3.8 hopefully. :attn: :D

I am still undecided on the MOBO too, so if the RAM you suggest works on a certain MOBO, suggest away! I obviously want to run 1:1 with the tightest timings possible.

well, for 3.8 ur gonna need something to run at least 255 stable.the first thing that comes to mind is pc4000/4200 but u arent gonna get tight timings.u might be able to stretch some ocz pc3700 dc gold that far or some ocz eb pc3700. getting those 2 to run good latencies at 255+ is gonna take a little luck and additional ddr voltage..i dont know much about the corsair pc3700, but ur asking it to run 20mhz+ faster than its rated speed. and thats hard to do at latencies of3-2-3-6 and below, not difficult at all
at 2.5-4-47/3-4-4-8 another suggestion would be to check out some of the preowned bh5 here, some of the guys have gotten 250/260 at 2-2-2-6, but those kinda of stix are rare and expensive and need 3.2volts at least..
lastly, u have to take into consideration how fast ur cpu will go.. if it only oc's to 3.6, then it isnt worth it to spend extra on memory speed u wont be able to use...

thats one of the reasons why I wanted Pc-3700, this way I know my chip will have a good chance to run at that speed. ill look into some of that ocz RAM. BTW any mobos that can hit 3.2 volts stock? I am not much with modding stuff like that.
