I want to use windows media center to play videos off my computer through xbox 360. i currently have avis that do not work... what should i do to fix this issue? i have vista if that helps.

re the files encoded properly? for whatever codec Xbox uses? ( I do not nor will ever own a console...)

although i don't have personal experience on this, from what i understand xbox only plays .wmv and maybe a few others like mpeg-2, but does not support divx. (i've also read that there's been an update so it supports .avi as well now, but once again, i've never done it.) it's probably microsoft wanting to promote their proprietary windows encoding through windows media player.

so the easiest way seems to be to convert your .divx or whatever into .wmv. i hear winavi works good for this. there's probably a work around...just google search "playing movies on xbox 360 from computer" and i'm sure you'll find something that will work for you
