Hello everyone, this is my first post. I need to buy a socket 423 motherboard, but I don't know which one to choose. I'll be running P4 1.3ghz. So I need advise on which is the best motherboard. Also I prefer that it uses DDR ram instead of RDRam. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

Interesting question: Socket 423 board that supports DDR memory....?

A rare breed indeed. In the days of socket-423, all major mobo makers were using the i850 chipset that required RDRAM. Then when the 845 was released, some boards with socket 423 and PC 133 SDRAM support came out.

ECS was one of the companies who decided to offer the best of both worlds - DDR and PC133 support on the same board, both for socket 478 and socket 423 platform.

So, the ECS P4VXASD is one of the few boards that can satisfy your requirement. Read about it:

But can't find it on pricewatch.

PC Chips and Amptron are also likely to make similar boards. PC Chips boards are not famous for their quality, but you don't have much of a choice here. You can get a PC Chips board here, but warranty I think is 30 days:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. This might seem like a dumb question, but could I use my cpu in a Socket 478 motherboard with some sort of adapter?

I don't think there are any of that kind; however if it were the other way around - using a socket 478 CPU on a socket 423 board, there are some products available.
