Ok all, the router i have WRT600N go knocked off the end table and well 2 of the entente broke off :( it still works but the signal sucks. I need a REALLY good router G and N.

Desktop #1 wired to router
Desktop #2 wireless N adaptor
2x iphone
2x ipads
1 laptop G+N.

Both desktop do game, and stream movies. The ipads only get used when not on desktop and stream movies. when laptop is being used for gaming MMO's 1 ipad is not being used. iphones well they use access but not like the ipads.

Also this is a 2 story house, router will be upstairs, almost center of the house, desktop #2 is down stairs to the side of the house. I'll need a fast router with a long range single.
I was looking at the Netgear WNDR4500 or Linksys E4200 . But maybe you guys here would know of a better one. i've use range extenders before because the WRT600N would only get like 2 bars for the desktop #2, but frankly the range extenders can be a pain in the butt. Any good routers for gaming/streaming multi vids with a GOOD range and speed?

The E4200 is a good router. However when you say really good to me you are talking about a commercial router. I run a Cisco 881W.

Also your router should be on your first floor, not the second. Think of the radio signal like an umbrella, you stand under it you don't get rained on. The same thing applies with the wireless radio, you stand under it you don't get a good signal.

I've had a lot of experience with the slightly lower end version of the Netgear WNDR4500 (N900), the N600. It would be fine for your uses. I've had the signal travel much further and through tougher materials (2 external walls) than what it sounds like you'll require. The N900 would give you a bunch of wireless bandwidth, but I don't see you using all of the N600 so maybe go with that router to save a few bucks(?). Unless you need to copy large amounts of data between the computers/laptop, then Wireless G and 10/100 ethernet will be fine for streaming media even multiple streams at the same time.

If you want to futureproof then getting gigabit isn't a bad investment, however for half the price to get the job done the N600 would be my recommendation.
