I was thinking about getting a Vantec Tornado fan you know the 84 cfm one. But i have read many posts about putting rheostat on it to control the noise somewhat.

Can anyone elaborate as how to do this and what i would need to order etc..

Or if there is an article on a website that anyone can direct me too I would surely appreciate it.

thanks

Is this something a newbie can do like myself. or should i leave it to the professionals like the local computer shop?

Like maxima said, the pre packaged rheo's are very easy to install. I however got one from here http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/ele-50.html Get them to install the tail for you and here is what you do when you get it.

Step 1)Find a convienient place for the rheo to go, (most likely a 5 1/4 drive bezel) and drill a hole for the rheo to go through. After sizing it appropriately install the rheo on the bezel.
Step 2)Apply power to the rheo by plugging a molex lead from your powersupply into 1 of the male ends of the rheo.
Step 3)Connect the vantec tornado into the rheo via the vantec's molex connector, and your done, the rheo I offered works great in my system and it quiets the vantec down nicely.

Hope this helps you out.

12am, thanks alot for the info. I am by all means not any good in drilling etc... what do you recommend using as a drilling tool. an ordinary drill. My problem would be making a hole too big or too small rendering the bezel trashed. and would have to use another bezel. Any sureshot way of getting the right size hole for it to fit in perfectly. Better yet do they have bezels that already have rheo's already preinstalled, I have a Lian Li case.

thanks again
