Hey guys, I just put together rig #2 tonight, but the problem is I can't get it to post. Specs:

Parts I bought new:
MSI KM2M Combo L (onboard video, sound, lan)
AMD Athlon 1.1Ghz (Tbird probably)
128mb DDR Pc2100 Ram
Parts I bought from a friend:
Generic 350watt psu
3.3gb hard drive
samsung 32x cdrom
coolermaster copper fan

What happens is when I turn it on with the monitor plugged into the onboard video is the power lights come on, fans spin, but no video. No beeps at all, nothing else weird.

Could it be a dead cpu? When I was applying the thermal greese and put the fan on, it kind of smeared the greese on top of one of the really small chips, but I didn't think that mattered.

So what could it be?

edit: removing all non-essensial parts (cdrom, hdd, intake fan, floppy) doesn't help.

Make sure you have all the components seated properly. It sounds to me like the processor or memory may not be on correctly. Also try clearning your CMOS in case perhaps the onboard video was disabled. The jumper for doing this should be listed in your manual.

Ok, sorry for the late reply. I managed to make things working by changing the fsb jumper on the mobo from 133 to 100. Should I have to do this?

Btw, I am posting from this rig running win2k, that's why I'm late ;)

I'm not sure what the core frequency of the T-Birds are, but I think it's right...

the core frequency of a t-bird under 1.4 is 100 so i'm almost sure that was the problem. With this core, you can go a bit above but not that far (+- 110).
