Hello everyone -
I could use your assistance. I am trying to brainstorm a pc build that will be used strictly for streaming.
My current setup is - console or pc > capture card > MacBook Pro M3
After tinkering around with the settings for OBS my current setup is
Streaming - X264 @ 2560x1440 - 10k bitrate
Streaming (vertical) X264 @ 1080x1920 - 6k bitrate
Recording Hardware Apple VT H264 @ 2560x1440 - 20k bitrate
I was struggling trying to find a balance of quality and performance. I had always assumed using a different encoder would be used for something like dedicated GPU for one and CPU for the other. It had never occurred to me (and I didn’t know it was possible) that one chipset can be split into two different encoders.
I am quite impressed with what the MacBook can do. However, I would like to start adding more scenes, sources and maybe upping the resolution to 4k.
Recording at 4k, main stream at 4k, and then a vertical stream at 1080p.
However, I do not know how much horse power that’s going to take.
My goal is to build a small itx case, air cooled. If possible just a beefy cpu. Unless a gpu is needed.
I’m looking at cases like the Fractal Ridge, Jonsbo N10… I’m actively researching trying to find a small, cool looking case that will allow good airflow.
My questions to you -
For what I am trying to achieve can I pull it off with just a higher end cpu? If so - what processor would you recommend? I would like to stick with AMD if possible.
If I do need a gpu what’s a smaller form factor gpu that’s not overkill? This pc will only be used for streaming, encoding.
In the event that this can be done with just the CPU will I be able to get away with an air cooler… If so - what kind of air cooler do you think? If I need a bigger air cooler I would expand my case research to larger cases.
I’m thinking (ideally)
ITX case (probably the ridge unless we need a larger cooler)
Air cooled
AMD processor (9800X3D??)
SFF PSU - Corsair SF750 (Overkill with the wattage but I am a big fan of this psu)
GPU… If needed - Can you recommend one in the AMD line up that can record at up to 4k, small form factor.
32GB ram (corsair vengeance)
Thank you for your time and input!
