Okay here is what I am getting for $349 from Fry's Electronics in Southern California(tell me if this is a good deal.) There is a 3 year warranty on their cpu's, and I have taken back stuff before and they are very lax :). Anywho here we go. MOBO = ABit KT7-100 RAID Via KT133 Chipset with Onboard High Point ATA-100 RAID Controller, Abit soft Menu 3. Is this a good mobo for o/cing. If so list your opinions, and why. The CPU = AMD Athlon 1GHz Socket A Boxed CPU. Now would it be better to get a 1 GHz Tbird? The price for the Athlon is higher on Pricewatch, but I have heard that the TBird is a better cpu. Fill me in on this. Should i stick with the Athlon 1GHz or buy a TBird 1 Ghz? How high can I o/c this bad boy?? What kind of fan should I purchase (I am not going to go peltier or water block.) One last thing if I can o/c this badboy to say 1.2 or 1.3 Ghz how much better will the performance be. Thanks... If you wondering what else I will be putting in I will just tell you i will have 256 ram, voodoo 5, 10 gig hd, maybe another 8 gig, and a crappy sound card. Probably a tv tuner as well.

BTW How much of a difference does it make to have the voodoo 5 3d card in a PCI slot rather then an AGP slot. I ask because that is what the voodoo 5 is, but I can probably exchange it for an AGP. Also what type of RAM does the ABIT KT7 100 RAID TAKE? I wonder cause I am ordering my ram from pricewatch.com which is substantially cheaper. Plus what type of RAM should i purchase. Generic or a name brand? How much of a difference will it make in speed( i am using this machine for gaming.) Thanks!

Woah, whatever you do don't get that Athlon for that board. The KT7 RAID (the board I have) is Socket A. The original Athlon is Slot A; it won't fit. The Tbird's are excellent and they're good overclockers to, but I wouldn't worry about overclocking 1 gHz that's fast enough. PC 133 ram is the stuff you want. As for cooling, any name brand fan will do but for heaven's sake get some of that Artic Silver Paste. It decreases temp by an additional 10 celcius. Hope that I was of some help

Sorry, I didn't read your post right. The socket A Athlon's are all Tbirds and yes that is a good board for overclocking. I have a 600mHz Duron running 100% stable at 1gHz and my ram is at 142mHz CAS2 so it is definetly a very good board. Good Luck with the CPU

What ram should I get along w/ what fan?

What ram should I get along w/ what fan?

I have infeneon ram. It's good stuff. The SuperOrb is the best performance for the money. For 20$ you have perfrmance near the top and it's not very loud either.

Wait a minute! the mobo is for tbird socket...and the cpu is a slot....FRY would never sell u a combo that does not match!
If the cpu is tbird socket....then thats a hella of a deal....just slap on any fan except the super orb because its a pain to get that to fit...and dont overclock it....1gig is fast enought....your eyes/brain cant tell the difference b/t frames per sec and ur just gonna dramatically lower ur cpu's life. For ram....buy cruicial....they have it on sale 128meg pc133 cl3 that will run cl2 for $60....free s/h...go to anandtech.com and search in the forum for the deal...its more clear there...and IF fry did really mess up and give u a class athlon....go return it...buy a kt7 raid...and a tbird 700 and overclcok it to 1 gig...prolly cheaper than 400+ ur paying.
Just a few thoughts

Kt7 raid duron600@900

Need some info on o/cing my setup! Abit KT7 w/oRAID w/ 600mhz duron

I have the Abit kt7 mb with out the raid. I had bought a AMD duron 600 hoping to at least overclock it to the 700-800mhz range. I penciled out the L1 and still, if i set the soft cpu III menu to anything but 600 and 650,, the computer doesn't boot!!! I have to reset the cmos memory and power off the power supply.. 700mhz and higher ,it won't even post!!! is there something im doing wrong??Has the golden orb fan too.
