First off, hi, im new, and yes i did do a search.

I am piecing together a computer, but the big thing I am still missing is monitors. I was originally going to pick up a couple dell 20" (not widescreen) but the price has gone up. I could still get them on refurb, but does anyone have experience with the quality of these refurb monitors? Or maybe there is another monitor/company I should be looking at? I guess I am just looking to spend <700 and get dual 20"s. I have seen that on new egg that I can get cheap dual 22"s widescreen for that price, but I have never been a fan of the extreme wide look of dual widescreens.

BTW this is all being driven by a 7900gs I just picked up

first off, I've got dual widescreen. And after the first half-hour of aww and wonder I got around to setting them up for extreme usage. Widgets now have a safe, out of the way place, and I still have real estate to do other things.

secondly, a refurb is just as good as the original. Just cheaper. It comes down to a matter of the law. Legally they have to let you know that the unit in question has been used, had a problem, and has been repaired. It's kind of like selling a used car. You know you've had problems with it, but it's still mostly good or you would have sent it to the heap right. Also, in these sorts of cases, the company that repairs it will often replace parts rather than repair them, this is much cheaper 99% of the time. So you get a monitor in that had a fuzzy picture for some reason... they rip that baby open, replace a filter, a cable, and maybe check out some connections. Plug er into the test bed to confirm it's working. let it run for a while and double check. If it all checks out then it's sellable again and they ship it off. if not then they heap it, just like the car.

hope that helps put a perspective on things for you.

Daryl
