My 3060ti just :poop:the bed as in last night, I wasn't in the bed with it, so I'm clean. I'm looking for a new card. I placed this post in the "general" section because I don't know what manufacturer to go with. I've always gone with NVIDIA, but I don't like the power cord and the potential issues we have all seen.
I know that leaves AMD, but I know nothing about them. I've read their drivers aren't as refined as NVIDIA, so........ I'm open to hearing from y'all

I'd guess you're not in the market for a 5090... and I havent seen any additional reports past the 3-4 that melted the first month. I wouldnt sweat it.

Youre a 4k gamer (just bought the 321urx yesterday myself!)...I'd say 5080 if the budget allows. I just don't think amd has enough power for you in a 9070xt.

Use cases? Budget? Performance expectations
The case is a full tower InWin 'Dragon Rider' case with a lot of ventilation that I've had for years. Budget is open within reason, so the 5090 is out. This is a do-everything rig that can game at 4k and work with the rest of my rig.

I'd say 5080 if the budget allows. I just don't think amd has enough power for you in a 9070xt.

I see some 5080 going for 13ish +-, so I can probably do that, any recommendations? Isn't there an RX9070xt, or is that the same card?
I do want to stay with Nvidia if I can get my mind past the power connector, but if you say it'll be ok, then I'll go with it.
This will be the last upgrade card for this rig.
Any thoughts on a 5070 Ti?

Use case = how you use the card. ;)

Same card... 9070xt.

As was said you aren't getting a 5090 so....... no worries. And seemingly none since the first month anyway so its seemingly less of an issue than everyone brought up.

Look up some reviews and see if you think a 5070ti is fast enough for you at 4k. If you were ok with a 3080Ti 5070ti is a lot faster...

No, it was a 3060ti. I'll check out the 5070ti, thanks, man
If you are going to look at the 5070Ti, you might as well look at the 9070 XT as well. They are pretty close to each other in gaming 4k reviews. The big exception is if you do things outside of gaming, like video encoding/editing, that makes use of the cuda cores. Then stick with nvidia.

IMHO, I would personally rather have the 5080 for the best 4k gaming performance. I'm running 1440p 144Hz so I'm very happy with the RX 9070 XT.

I would like to have the 5080 as well, but is the performance worth the price hike if they're available?

I'm guessing you could get good performance out of the xx70 series on 4k thanks to DLSS &/or FSR. That could make the $1400 5080 video card unnecessary.
I can't say if the extra expense is worth the extra performance for you. There are too many variables for me to decide what's acceptable to you (hope that makes sense).

ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX ™ 5080 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition

or the MSI that EarthDog offered?
Would I need to upgrade my PSU with the 5080?

Thanks, all I'm ordering the MSI that EarthDog showed me. I tried to game on the 980TI and it suked so.

everyone still looks at the avg fps, i am more what is the low 1%/.01% numbers look like. If the spread is not that high to the next card down save some cash. personally think your in the 4070Ti super, 4080, 4080 super range. Found two guys on ebay i would buy from. One is $1100 because that last section for the pcie slot that has no traces running through it is cracked and the other is selling one for $1249.

no you do not need to upgrade your psu for a 5080. when did you buy the PSU? i had to buy a 8pin pcie cable, buying directly or on amazon from corsiar was more then i thought it should be. Even when i put in a support request to get one they were like, "LINK" here you go, go buy one. that seems a bit none-customer oriented like i remember they use to be.

This build is just over three years old. I bought the card from Amazon, and it was 1340 +- I'm good with that. I spent most of yesterday looking over cards; to the untrained eye, they all seem very close in specs. The 5080 was 150-ish more, but it starts like that, and you say well....... is only a little more, and then you're up to 2k before you know it.
Thanks, EarthDogs (y) and everyone else who added to the conversation.
