network card ..... gigabit card ?

well, im not haveing any luck finding the info im needing ..... does anyone know .... is a gigabit card the same as a network card ? the gigabit card says 1000mbps switch card ...... my impression is that it is a steroid version of a network card .... but i cannot seem to find the info to tell me for sure. anyone got any experience with em ? thanks.

yes most gigabyte cards are backward comaptible with 10mb/100mb systems - how ever if you are not going to set up a gigabyte lan not much point, and if you are going to go gigbyte make sure you use certified cat 6 cabling or you will have a good amount of loss packets and other negative effects.
