network not working

I have a 600MHz PIII with Win ME that I'm trying to connect to a custom built 2.53GHz P4 with Win XP. I can get the computers networked, but I can't get on the internet on the ME computer. Normally it works with ME, but im ****ed because I had to install over 98SE and it doesnt work. any ideas?

Sometimes COM1/COM2 modems need to have the COM port that they use disabled and located again....

how are the computers networked? Is the XP machine using ICS?

check your default gateway and DNS server.. can you ping them from the ME box?

I had a similar problem yesterday after I swapped my MOBO's (running W2K and WinME).

Assuming you have 2 NIC's in the XP rig this is what you should look at:

Right click on "My Network Places", select Properties.
Right click the NIC that is used for the Internet connection, select Properties.
Under the "General" tab these should be listed:
Client for Microsoft Networks.
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
If they are listed go to the Advanced tab and make sure "Allow other users to connect through this computers Internet connection" is checked.

the xp rig has a IT7 board. The HP is a 9600. I dont know what the board is, but WPIUD says its an Asustek.
