Mobo is Asus B650E-F. Woke up and turned on the system and... no network. Got on using wifi for now. It is built in into mobo and is an Intel I225-V rev 3.

Things I've tried:
Restart the system - no change
Reseat the cable on both PC and switch end - no change
Tried alternate port on switch - no change
Check BIOS, network adapter is enabled. Tried disabling it then re-enabling it again. No change.
In device manager, the device is NOT listed at all.

Things I haven't tried yet:
Different cable as I need to see if I have a spare long enough. If device is not appearing in Windows at all not sure this'll help.
Update bios? Shouldn't make a difference, but will try anyway. Latest bios is more for Zen 5 updates so I didn't bother before for my Zen 4 CPU.

Any other thoughts?

Mobo is still in warranty but I really don't want to be swapping it out just for that. If this can't be resolved I'll probably get another NIC instead.

Silly question, are there lights on the port for the PC(not the switch) when a cable is plugged into it and a switch?

I'm actually having an issue with my main PC atm that's kind of similar, only mine seems to be slowly giving up the ghost due to what I think are poor solder joints. It will work fine, lights on the port and works/shows up in BIOS/Windows, until i tap the cable slightly to the left or right, then the whole thing goes dark. Doesn't affect the PC in any way either, just no more ethernet. I've tried different cables too, same deal. I'm not sure if a cable was tripped on and that borked the port causing the issue, or if it's just bad connections to the board as I mentioned. I'm too lazy lately to fix it, so until it stops working completely, it's fine. ;)

This is fun. I don't remember seeing lights when the problem started, so I thought I'd put the cable back in to double check. Green light. It's detected now. I tried moving the cable around a bit in case it is a loose connection. Light stays on. So it basically randomly disappeared for some days and just decided to work again now. Don't know what to make of that!

Time to throw it in the oven for a reflow. :) :p
If I tried that, I'll burn it!

I will say, I did make a hardware change to the system earlier tonight. I added another M.2 SSD to a free chipset connected slot. But that's nowhere near the rear IO area where the network socket it. Unless moving the case to do that did something somehow. Since I didn't leave the cable plugged in after the problem started, I don't know exactly when it reappeared again. Might be totally unrelated to adding the SSD.

Do you have a heatgun? Spot heat the RJ45 solder joints.
If the device disappears totally, it probably isn't the RJ45 that's the problem but further back, perhaps in the chip.

was there a storm last night? Also, try booting into a LInux Distro and see if it shows up on with lspci.
Since it is working in Windows right now it'll probably work in Linux. If it happens again I'll try then, as that was one test I didn't get around to doing while the fault was happening.
