Hi all, I just got my new 9800 Pro 256 bit 128 mb ram, but its not quite what I expected. I have heard of people running far cry with very high settings at 1280x1024, but I have not been able to do that without frequent slow downs which bring the FPS to single digits when I first fire my gun. The game lags for a bout 1-2 seconds, then the FPS goes back to around 60. My mark3d03 score is also somewhat low, at 5902. My machine is a P4 2.4 @ 3.3, 512 ram, abit IS7-E. I haven't overclocked my videocard yet, since I have not received my Arctic cooling silencer.

That score is not at all low it's just where it should be, you'll see people with 6,000 and 7,000 is because they have overclocked their video card, I personaly get around 6,200 3dmarks overclocked to 433 core and 376 mem at stock clocks I get around 5,500 3d marks and mine are usually lower then other people. I have never played Far Cry since it's not the kind of game I like to play.

try playing farcry at 1024x768 with AF on 4 in the game settings (no AA)....
AA and AF turned off in the CP.

your framerate will be far better.

Try living with a 1.4GHZ and a 8x vid card at 4x, i tell ya the best AMD board i have ever seen is the A7N8X deluxe from ASUS. My brother has one, with an amd 1600+ and a radeon 9800 pro 128mb, and it runs most games flawlessly. 1280x1024 resolution usually too..

Man those numbers are fine I only get 5300 in 3dmark03, as for far cry I run 1024x768 Very High for everything except water wich is set to ultra high. I also run 2xAA and 4xAF in performance mode, and while the game does stutter on my first gunshot, everything after that is smooth sailing.

the slow downs maybe cause by ur 512mbs of RAM...Far Cry is a ram hog and 512 might be the problem.
