I'm new, I hang out at the trubritar forums, but they are not very busy, so now I'm going to hang out here too. I'm the guy who is always in the state or getting enthusiast computer in a month. I also love green.
So to get on topic, I hate most offline stores( I love Circuit City, ut they left my town) and that starts me on Best Buy, this terrible store comes in and kills Circuit City, all my experiences with Best Buy(2) have ended terrible.
1. My dad bought me an xbox360, It was missing the arcade games that come with it, the controller was broken and the xbox did not work without internet. It was also very slow.
2. I did not do my research and I bought an Insignia(Best Buy Brand) 22'' TV for $280 to play xbox on, the TV does not work at all, but I don't care, I just need the xbox to work on it it has terrible quality, so I think that that's normal and my 30 day warranty expires. I look around on Newegg and see better quality 22 and 24 inch monitors for $100-$50 less with 10times better contrast. Monitors are cheaper, but my TV might as well have been a monitor, it came with an VGA cable and the TV dosn't work, it freezes up and gets badly pixelated, and only receives 3 channels, which 2 of them are not local. One was Family Guy(local), one was a soap opera with cowboys?, and Spanish news.
So this is how I make my first impression, by complaining, my dad says I'm good at that, he's a bit crazy though, he thinks I conspire(yes he uses the word) against him with my friends to make him suffer and get mad.

Cue Bestbuy Support bot!

(We've noticed that companies have bots (or maybe humans) trolling google to find posts like this and try to help. Or at least claim to. I'm going to laugh if a bestbuy support bot shows up. On a more serious note, I'm sorry to hear you're having issues, that kind of stuff drives me nuts)

I am in no way affiliated with BestBuy, or any other business involved in the marketting of consumer goods.

The Television.. is that connected to cable, a cable box, or an Antennna. Or not connected to anything except the power cord?

It sounds as though the TV has a digital tuner, but isn't getting a good signal. The poor signal would cause the television show to skip, pause, lock up, etc. It would also cause the image to go from perfectly fine to incredibly pixelated, wth large black areas.

sorry to hear about your experience at best buy. but you don't have to judge them quite so soon. you've had two bad experiences, and one of which (no offense) you said you didn't do your research. i think it's a pretty good store except that their computer section is lacking for me (thank god i live near a microcenter) and the geek squad doesn't seem to know a tenth of what people on this forum knows, at least in my area.

by comparison i really didn't like circuit city. they had better selection of goods but they seemed overpriced. and i really hated that they worked on commission...kept asking me if i needed help even when i'm just looking at batteries.

and no i don't work for best buy. although i would if they asked. but i would take my paycheck and spend it at microcenter or newegg

oh and i'm an architecture student. i'm actually in design studio typing this right now

My dad does not return things if they are only partially broken, and he won't let me either. Like are dishwasher, we wash the dishes then put them in and some of them are still dirty.
Yes, I did have the antennae plugged in and on the edge of the window, my mom has an antennae 3' away in another room and it works perfectly, with her TV, a 19'' Vizio

could be your mom's room faces a better direction. is your room on the same side of the house and what not as your mothers?

It's not my mom's room, we have a computer room, and the dining room in next door, the dining room has a door to the deck and my mom sits on the deck alot in Summer so my mom leaves the tv in the corner of the room by the door. I tried it and it works great in the corner of the room, mine is right on the other side of the wall with a small closet between them.

Then any complaints about something being broken are invalid. You're "angry" with Best Buy for something that you / (or your dad, if you're not old enough to drive yourself back to the store to return the thing) are at fault for.

By any chance does the small closet have many metal clothes hangers in it?

I'm angry that Best Buy sells things that have missing things in the box and are broken, and no there is just office supplies in the closet, no metal that I could think of, and I'm not old enough to drive, I just turned 16 last Wednesday

Best Buy is a LARGE corporation. While I dont buy CPU supplies there (except accessories when I NEED them), I do buy my TV's, Appliances, ect (as they price match, plus I get my points and no interest financing :D). Things happen, not everything is perfect. If you buy from newegg, you will sometimes get some missing parts, or broken components. It happens. QC isnt always 100%, but I must say that BB has a very good return policy and Ive NEVER had an issue returning or exchanging something.

If theres a problem, take it in. If you cant drive, your parents dont want to, well you have 2 feet. Take it in and handle it. The store doesnt require you to be 18 to return something :/

The store is miles away, but I guess I was too harsh about the quality seeing as I couldn't even try to return it.
Still the TV was overpriced, I can't blame Best Buy for my buying it though, I should have done more research.

Best Buy was the only company that sells that TV, Insignia(Best Buy Brand)
Also I didn't know about that, it might still be under warranty, I got it in July I think, I need to check the manual to see how long the warranty is for.

+1 for BestBuy hater

I had a similar experience when I bought a camera from them last year. It came without the USB cable and they wouldn't give a cable because it was an "open box" item. WTF? They went and brought it out of the back because it was the last one in stock. Boy was I mad...

Sure, Best Buy kinda sucks. That's why I never really get anything there. But...
I'm angry that Best Buy sells things that have missing things in the box and are broken
Every retailer, online or not, occasionally sells a broken product. That's why the have a return policy. Best Buy is pretty decent in this regard. Partially broken means not fully functional. Not fully functional means broken. If it's broken, you should return it.

I did not do my research and I bought an Insignia(Best Buy Brand) 22'' TV for $280 to play xbox on, the TV does not work at al
It's not their fault if they stock a bad, overpriced product and you buy it.
