hello,
ive got a rather dopey mobo, its a gigabyte ga-6bxd slot 1 running 2x p3 katmai 500.
Its a great pc and ive had it nearly 2 yrs which is the longest ive got out of a pc.
I dont want to give it up cos' i still think it has a lot of life in her still.

Now the problem is she dosent have any clocking potential theres no settings in the bios
at all shes either 66 or 100 fsb. gigabytes have there software thing for getting a few tweaks
but this board isnt compatible.

ok, now my question is can i just drop in a new bios? it sounds simple enough to me...
or am i just stoopid...

is this possible... if so how do i go about this.. what should i be looking for ?
im guessing you can buy blank bios but i'm hoping i can buy somthing of the shelf and drop
it in.

cheers

You can download upgrades for your current motherboard from the manufactures website.
It may or may not allow more multiplier settings.
There is or was a company called Mr. Bios that made custom enhanced bios. I do not know if they are still around thou just do a web search for the name.

its not a stupid question and i wish it was that easy just to drop in a new BIOS, there are a few things you can do but none of them will give you a hole lot of extra performance like a MB that is overcloker friendly and your CPU is not one of the better CPU's to overclock. You can try www.tweakfiles.com and go into the bios section and there is a program that may help but your chipset has to be supported first or your clock generator. If none of these work and Placids good ideas did not pan out then go to www.rojakpot.com and get into there bios guide and you can optimize your BIOS for the best settings, thats about all i can offer.

If the mainboard is expendable, you might "drop in a new BIOS." If you can't afford to trash the mobo, I suggest NOT flashing it with a foreign BIOS.
