Good Day to all. Have received an updated budget and will attempt to try to figure out what exactly is the most “user-friendly”, cost effective, enthusiast's build possible.

Background information:

Have Gigabyte Z87 GA-Z87X-UD4H, Cpu Haswell 4770K.

Have not been told what the budget is or what direction we are going for primary and secondary storage. Best “guess” 120Gb SSD, External Hard Drive.

Monitor is 1080P - I’m not sure if are planning on buying one in the future, we may we may not. Was thinking lightboost if we really wanted too.....$$$ may not be there in the future. Not part of the "$1000 budget".

Have a good idea on RAM selection (have posted on Memory Sub-Forum)

Top Contender right now. (Newegg Link) $63.99

Budget numbers are first (what was given to us). Guesstimation of what the cost is.

Starting in NO particular order:

Power Supply $100 - Corsair CX Series CX750 listed on Newegg for $80.

Reasoning is that this power supply will be reliable, “future-proof”, and provide plenty of power for the current system needs. If anyone has any other suggestions please post away.

Case $100 Fractal Design Define R4 Mid-Tower Case - At Microcenter for $89.99.

Reason for this case selection is that it is a very good case, looks very nice (Pearl Black), plenty of room, very quiet, configurable. $90.00 is an excellent price. Truth be told this may actually be “too much” case. It is almost Art.

Video Card/GPU Solution $300.00 - We really don’t know what is the “latest and greatest”. Three hundred dollars MAY be too much of the budget. Let’s assume that it is not. MSI N760 Hawk 2Gb. It is difficult to guess how good this thing really is. Earthdog’s review really impresses - if this is $250 it is “true good to be true". IF we could find it for less than $300 it may be the perfect fit. Not opposed to AMD/ATI - was thinking if we could find a 7950 for $220.00 that might be another route to go.

Cooling (Heatsink) $50 ~ $100

First off I’m not really sure if this is “needed” or not. The end user has none, zip, zero, zilch, experience in O/C. Sad but true. Was thinking if we wanted to do that at some point in the future that would be great. Then again if I built a $1000ish system and fried it by overclocking.....well, you do get the idea.

Internet/Gaming connectivity $60. Thinking we could go 300Mbps Wireless N or USB adapter. Pretty sure that sixty dollar is over budget on this, was thinking that $30 might be a better price point.

All apologies for posting this in such a "long-format". Then again to paraphrase A. Asimov: "Violence is the last refuge for the Incompetent".

Thanks to all forum members for taking the time to read and post!

One thread is enough since this is a system build thread really... as far as the ram goes, 2x4GB DDR3 1600 CL9 1.5v is what you need.

PSU is plenty. Too much if only using a single GPU.

Case = your choice.

In my review, the MSRP will be $299 or less... hopefully less.

ANy other choice that wireless for gaming as that is not optimal, but will work of course if it has to.

Thank you Earthdog. Appreciate you're time.

I "know" the PSU is too much. I'm not sure if it makes sense to go much lower price wise.

Great comment on the case. Trying to help some understand that there are lots of cases. They are working the "solution" on there end.

If you don't mind me asking a dumb question (and believe me I'm starting to think that is what we/i/all of us are made of). Do you remember seeing a 4Gb GTX760 somewhere for less than $300? I found this on Newegg.

Thanks Again!

Newegg link didnt work, but when I searched for 4GB 760's, the cheapest was $299.

Why 4GB by the way? For 1080p gaming, I do not see much point really.

I have been instructed to find the most future proof, performance capable, cost effective solution possible.

We forum members have a saying - "the general rule of thumb is buy the single best GPU solution possible". That's why I'm thinking that way.

It may be "overkill" today - in 6 months? Who knows?:p

I know in 6 months 2GB will still be fine... :p. All joking aside, if that is what was asked of you, perhaps, as you mentioned, you should look into a the 7950 or 7970 if budget allows as those are 384bit 3GB cards.

Thanks again! I thinking GTX760 @ $250, or 7950 @ $230 (219.99 after rebate), or 7970 @ $319.99 (299.99 after rebate).

Thanks Again!:thup::D

Thanks for that comment. It is we understand that. You and I know that there are other choices that might be better and cost less. OTH it isn't our/my money.

I did mention something like the less expensive Corsair cases, buying a "refurbed" case etc.... If you have an idea for something around $60, then by all means let me know.

Thanks Again!

Update:

Ordered the following on Newegg:

1)COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO
2)G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB DDR3 1866

Didn't have to count against the budget! Use "free $$$$" on this.:p:thup:
