New build for my brother $800 budget

Hey guys my brother is wanting a new computer, so we are going to build him one. He is currently using a dell XPS, quad core, 6gb of ram and idk which video card. He has had it for about 6 years now. He wants to be able to play games on high settings or better. He mainly plays league of legends and some steam games. We live in Canada so will be purchasing either from newegg.ca, canada computers or tigerdirect.ca. Missed the black friday boat... most stuff that was on sale is out of stock now... We will maybe try and buy stuff on cyber monday or wait until boxing day.

Anyway currently have $800 budget
currently have: 1080p monitor, keyboard, mouse, corsair 600 watt builder series 80 + plus bronze

I'm thinking about using these parts, if you can recommend something better I'd like to hear
CPU: AMD FX 6300 ($125) or 8320 [$125 instorepurchase]

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo ($30)

MOBO: Asus M5A97 R2.0 ($100)/Gigabyte Ga-990FXA-UD3 ($130) kinda mixed reviews on these boards not too sure...

GPU: not sure which one to get

Are these parts all compatible with each other? How does it look? Should I go with an Intel build?

Well, you're at $565 so far so that leaves about $200 for the GPU. Do you already have a copy of windows? If not you should factor that in ($100) to your purchase price.

Yes all the parts you chose are compatible.

The Kingston SSD Now is by no means crapp, but it's performance is quite lackluster. Some SSDs are up to 100MB/s faster.

For $200 and change you can get a 3GB 7950. That's probably the best bang for the buck.

I do have a copy of windows 7 for myself, now I'm not sure if it will work again... I built a system with an i3 and gigabyte h67 mobo and some other parts 3 years ago and used my copy of windows 7 64 bit home premium. Then I upgraded to the parts in my sig. I used the same disc and key. So maybe it will work again for my brothers build? Will the club 3d raedon 7950 give the same performance as the other 7950s? Also how good are the 7870 cards?there in the $200 price range aswell. thanks guys

Overclocking maybe. Not a huge deal if my brother cant. Hes been using a fairly old computer and just wants better graphics mainly. I'd like to get him a decent ssd for a boot drive mainly.

Windows keys should work 3 times (except for student editions).

If that 7950 Teocnoob suggested holds a candle to other 7950s, then it will be your best bet for the price...and it looks fine to me.

You could put a 3570K on a $130 board and still overclock to the moon on air.

Don't recommend outdated equipment. If he goes Intel he should go 4670K and ASUS Z87-A. Moot point though, as he doesn't have the money!

His only real choice is an FX 6300 or an FX8320 on sale. They were at $120 for black friday on the egg.

I edited that post quite a while ago to include an AMD option (the FX-6350, which fits his budget). I suggested the 3570k because it overclocks better than the 4670k (I asked him if he was going to overclock..I assumed he was since he was getting an aftermarket cooler, so I suggested the 3570k).

That motherboard is $130 after accounting for the $40 4GB DDR3 1866 it comes with.

Crucial M500 120GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT120M500SSD1 $90

or

Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Stand-Alone Drive) $80

Step up to a 7950 or a 280X and get the 8-core AMD. With Mantle coming, that's going to be a big deal in the future.

That does look good...as for the CPU, the 6350 is a factory OC'd 6300. The 6300 is a 8230 with two cores disabled.

He says he has a budget, and the build looks good other than that, so I'd max out the budget on GPU and the 8 core is useful for multi-tasking, and in the future if he decides to play Mantle-enabled games, it's going to be very useful. I hate the word "future-proofing" but if that term must be thrown around, that's what you're doing.

If the budget isn't a strained one, then I agree completely...the extra gig of VRAM + ~30% performance boost is definitely worth it.

PS: Newegg.ca is out of 7950s atm lol

Kingston hands down. WAAAAAAAAAAAAY faster write speeds.

Also, you can get 2133 ram for a couple bucks more.

It doesn't matter which controller the SSD has. Any SATA 1,2 or 3 device will work on a SATA 3 port.

You should really look at a 7950/7970/R9 280X for the GPU. Even ditch the SSD if you have to.
