OK. You have a short to ground. Easy fix. I suspect it will be one or all of the points I circled. Insulate them with a piece of electrical tape and try it.

Don't think it will be those circles, here is a online photo and it looks similar. They don't have anything different or electrical tape etc?

They also don't have a short to ground when they install a board in it. Your board is touching something on the case. It will not be the standoffs unless they're too short. The areas I marked are the highest points behind the board, thus most likely to be contacting it.
Try it, what do you have to lose?

Those points are indented? they are not raised above the rest of the case. Anyhow, as you say worth a try so when I get home I will try. Only problem is I have no electrical tape before, never used it either. Is the idea to bunch it into smalls that fill the holes or to cover those points? Is there anything else but electrical tape that could be used?

Blue dress or white dress... :p

... those look recessed. Look at the other two without the screws in it, they look recessed.

Guys, he said in the quoted post below they're lower than the rest.

capwn, if they're recessed instead of raised you don't need to try it.

How about these spots? Im not sure the lower one is even under the board, but if they system works outside of the case .....

FWIW: I was surprised to hear him say they were indented as well, as 2 of the 4 look clearly raised to my eyes

Its an optical illusion... the angles. Just like the dress thing I referenced (except that was over color). ;)

Im cool with that. I was just saying I picked blue :)

But if those points are recessed, the others I marked in the pic arent right?

All 4 are recessed. If I look at it from a different angle on my monitor I can absolutely see it raised too!

Already tried it. You're correct. Optical delusion.

Board still has a short to the case somewhere though.

Yeah, now it powers on but only for a fraction of a millisecond! I just can't see how it's touching the case? There is a gap on the sides and underneath. Only things touching mb are the split offs. I tried putting PC case on its side (incase super heavy big heatsink was pushing it down into the case) but no changes. Works fine out of the case.

Ended up taking this into a tech repair shop and it worked straight away. He couldn't see anything I was doing wrong. I brought it home and it works fine now. He thought it was perhaps because I didn't have the gfx card plugged in when testing but mb should still come on without it?

Anyway, now I've run into a whole other issue and can't install my official copy of Windows 7 because the mb does not read my dvd drive. If anyone is interested it's in the AMD motherboard folder.

Thanks for all the support up until now.
