ok heres the deal, about a year ago i built the new system that is listed in my sig, love it, but its large, bulky, and loud. So i enjoy building the comps alot and id love to build one that hauls even more *** then this one, only thing is i wanna make it smaller at the same time. One of the things im worried about is cooling, although i dont intend on overclocking, if i do, it wont be nothing hardcore. So i put together a list of some parts and you tell me what you think, im really in love with the case tho so try not to say anything bad about it lol :p Most of the stuff comes from newegg, the rest should have links.

i would swap out the psu and video card. probably get a better/more reliable brand for the psu and possibly get an x800gto, x800gto2 if you can bump up your budget a little. if youre not gaming then the 6600gt will be fine (although an x700 can be had for less if you want to lower the costs)

i think its a pretty decent buildish for a computer.

my only question is wuts up with the DFI SLI and the 6600gt...

Lol, if you can spend that much on the motherboard.. id figure you could get a faster gpu as well. The arctic cooling feelings a little wasteful as well. spend that on a better gpu if you can. i guess the plastic vibration kit is personal preference.

im not a very big fan of rosewill psus...
but i guess it does the job.

what would you reccomend to match the motherboard as far as a graphics card, without blowing the price way outta the water?

your not OCing so save some cash and get valueRAM...I'd say 2x1gb (that'll run ya only 40 more with value RAM and keep your system zippy).

6600GT is a decent card, but for just a little more you could get a 6800GS which has a better bang for the buck IMO.

No need for a DFI mobo if your not OCing...and no need for SLI either. I'd suggest one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128268
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130491
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127221
And boom 120 saved, that's huge and also consider your not gonna see a difference in performance!

Make sure those 60mm fans are quiet...I'd say 30db or so...not much higher if you want it quiet.
I'd ask around and see how loud/quit those SFF cases are, Also, check the db rating for the fan in the PSU, usualy people overlook that and that's the loudest part. Also I wouldn't get a thermaly controled fan, get a manualy one if you want control (but I'd get a 80mm fan like a vantec stealth or another around 30db).

Any reason for XP pro? dual core will work with home edition.

Mate,

Here are a few changes I'd ask you to make:-
  • OCZ Powerstream 520W, Fortron Bluestorm AX500A or PCP&C 510W. You need a decent PSU for a DFI based rig. Thet Rosewill will not cut it. Never compromise on your PSU!

If you choose to get a better video card, I's suggest looking for the Sapphire x850xt on sale for about $210 or an XFX 6800GS. If you can find a Sapphire x800GTO2 for about $170, that would be the best route to take,as it unlocks to an x850xt. :)

Good luck!

opteron has more cache so at the same clock speeds the opto is faster. They also tend to OC very well...and they cost the same as their X2 counterparts.

only cus its the one im used to, i have a jacked copy my friend gave me but as you know they scan the cd keys now on the update site, so i figured i might as well just buy a copy this way i have one for the computers around the house. I was interested in xp 64 but im unsure as to how compatable it is with my programs.

Yeah but you're out of luck for that. Micro$oft requires you to buy a separate copy of Windows XP for every computer. Curse them!!

Right now it's not worth it, as the driver support is really lacking on 64-bit Windows.
