Sup fellas. Here again asking some advice for a new build. Gaming and Photo/Video editing rig so going for a 7800x3d paired with an ASUS ROG Strix B650-A. Never used a 7 series AMD chip nor board so don't know anything about what RAM pairs good and stable brands. I think I read DDR5 6000mhz was the sweet spot. Any advice what RAM I should use and CPU will be running STOCK and hopefully RAM with XMP profile. Thanks

If you need a higher capacity like 64GB or 96GB then look for G.Skill or Kingston at 6000 CL30/32 or 6400 CL32 (it doesn't matter what series, as they all use Hynix IC and only heatsinks and RGB are different). It doesn't matter much if it's XMP or EXPO as ASUS/AMD motherboards support both. However, it's not guaranteed that your CPU will run 100% stable with RAM@6400 1:1. This is why 6000 is generally recommended for the Ryzen 7000 series. On X3D CPU it also doesn't matter if it's 6000 or 6400 as it performs almost the same.
Btw. Kingston 6400 CL32 kits have XMP profiles at 4800 and 6000 too. G.Skill has only one XMP profile at 6400.

Hey do you by any chance know if the RGB headers on this Asus board handle 2 sets of 3 RGB fans with their own hub?

Antec 140mm RGB Fans, 140mm Case Fans, 30mm Thickness Case Fan, 1500 RPM with 95.44CFM, 1.94mmH₂O, 5V 3Pin Addressable RGB Fans with Controller

If it works as a hub only then it will work. If it works as a controller then it will take over RGB. If I see it right, then it connects with the motherboard using a 3-pin RGB cable so it should work.

Still thinking the build parts over, but would you go Asus or Gigabyte? Mainly this Gigabyte board...

GIGABYTE B650 AORUS Elite AX ICE (AM5/ LGA 1718/ AMD/ B650/ ATX/ 5-Year Warranty/ DDR5/ Triple M.2/ PCIe 5.0/ USB 3.2 Gen2X2 Type-C/WiFi 6E/ 2.5GbE LAN/ Snow White/ EZ-Latch/ Motherboard)

My current build started with an Asus B550 Gaming before I switched to NZXT B550 Asrock board that has been rock solid. I wanted the Asrock B650 Steel Legend board but has bad reviews.

I have mixed feelings about Gigabyte. This is mainly because of BIOS problems, shared for the whole motherboard line. Once you think they solved it, it comes back 2-3 versions later. I mean mainly RAM support and higher voltages (on some versions, above 1.435V won't even post and 1.45V is XMP/EXPO for some memory kits), but some other single issues come and go, too. Most problems can be skipped as they are not important for most users.
I still like how Gigabyte uses multiple M.2 PCIe 5.0 sockets, while other brands limit them to 4.0.
ASUS is more reliable and their BIOS support works well. I still can't say if every motherboard is good as I mainly use mid/high series like Strix or higher.

In about 3 weeks will be the premiere of X870/X870E motherboards. I'm not saying they will be cheap, but I also don't know what options we will get in the first weeks. ASUS and Gigabyte have their new models listed (only the highest chipsets). ASRock, MSI, and others don't have anything on their websites. Some models look pretty good and for sure will have longer support than the current series, which has been with us for many months.

Ok here is what I came up as my final build for mainly photo/video editing with gaming as secondary.

AMD RYZEN 7900X
THERMALRIGHT PA 120
ASUS STRIX B650-E
G.Skill 6000 C30 2x32GB
ASUS 4070 SUPER OC EVO
CORSAIR 850W RM850e
WD BLACK 4TB SN850x NVME
MONTECH AIR 903 MAX CASE

What do you think 🤔

That looks like a nice build.

I swapped the CORSAIR RM850e for an MSI MAG 850GL White PSU.

I am thinking of swapping the G.Skill Flair X5 6000 30-40-40-96 memory for Kingston Fury Beast White 6000 C30-30-36-36? 🤔

I don't recommend the ASUS RTX4070 Super DUAL EVO. I have one and have mixed feelings about the cooler - noisy at auto settings, but more annoying is that when you set a lower speed manually, it still randomly goes up to 100%. If you have a larger PC case, then get something with three fans.

Cool, I need a white card so how about the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER EAGLE ICE?

I think this is a good config,

I dont suggest the MSI PSU, if you need to save money look at FSP Focus or other partial Modular PSUs where the CPU and Motherboard power are fixed, but the rest are modular.

Besides the triple fan Gigabyte RTX 4070 SUPER EAGLE ICE, I read the non EVO Asus 4070 Super dual has a beefier Heatsink and 100mm fans compared to the EVO's 90mm.

Since MSI MAG GL isn't recommended and I wanted a white PSU with a dedicated 16 pin PCIe cable, I give up. I'll take whatever is good, but less than $130.

Some of my choices are Corsair RM850e, Asus Prine 850w Gold, be Quiet Pure Power 12 850w, or Thermaltake ToughPower GF3 850w.

I've always bought Corsair PSU's but the RMe line isn't as good as the RM or RMx. I've bought Asus Strix PSU's but not for my PC's though the Prime line seems to be the lowest budget one.

The EVO version has heatsink fins forcing the air to go on the sides, so at least one side works as an exhaust for hot air and goes out of the case. It's a better option for small PCs, but it doesn't matter much in a typical large ATX case with some fans.
Both DUAL versions have quite cheap-looking cooling. In my card, one of the fans was making additional noises. Now it seems fine, but at first, I wanted to return it. The non-EVO version shares the PCB with the 4070Ti but not the cooling. I'm not saying they will surely be bad, but other cards give a better experience.

About PSUs, I wanted to recommend something from FSP as they are good and reasonably priced (as long as you can find them). However, I can't find any white PSU in stores. They also asked me if I wished to review something recently and told me that nothing white was available from their central warehouse. It can still be available in smaller online stores.
Something like FSP VITA GM is listed in white, with a 12V-2x6 cable.
Here are all the white options - click. I tested most of their modern PSUs, which were pretty good.

The more I do research on products, the more I see people post to stay away from Asus right now as their customer service is worse than ever. Yikes!

I saw the Asus Tuf 4070 Super gets good reviews for a 3 fan card though it's black.

I generally have no problems with ASUS. However, every brand has better and worse products. RMA problems are not global. Mostly, some people with bad experiences spam all forums where they are active, so it looks worse than reality. If it were such a big problem, then ASUS wouldn't be a top seller as similar things have been heard for long years, and it was even worse ~15 years ago than in recent years.
I'm not happy with the RTX4070 Super DUAL EVO cooler, but it doesn't mean I will stop buying ASUS products.

TUF or ProArt seem good. At least I saw some good reviews.
