Morning all,

It's been 5 years since my last computer build and I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard, CPU and graphics card.

I know I need RAM but that's a minor issue I can add on afterwards.

My current system includes the following:

GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X3 720 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Black Processor

And a measly Radeon HD 5450 which I put in as a swift replacement for a broken:

HIS H487FN1GP Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

I'm not a big gamer at all though I occassionally tinker, I use the system for watching video's and I also want to start using Sony Vegas to edit video's. I currently use a laptop for this but I want to move this to the desktop system.

Any thoughts or ideas? I've been out of the loop for a little while....and hey if I can get RAM in there too, even better.

Thanks a lot.

If you're not a big gamer, I wouldn't worry too much about a GPU right now. If you are big into editing, you need a good 1150 board and I'd recommend a 4770K. If it's just hobbyist editing and general use, I'd recommend an Asus/MSI/Gigabyte 1150 board ~$200 and a 4670K and some 1866 Ram (8GB-16GB). For now you could get by with the onboard graphics or your 5450. Then as funds allow upgrade to something like a 7950/R9-280X/770/R9-290

That's just my thoughts on the matter. I'm sure plenty of others would think differently.
