New F@H Case.

Since this is for F@H and presumably multiple GPUs, just ensure it has enough expansion slots on the rear. With 2 slot cards you should be OK with the six it has. But if you ever upgrade to dual 3-slot cards, that could be an issue depending on PCIe slot placement on the mobo.

Also, that's not a particularly 'deep' case in that it only supports up to 12" GPUs. Just be aware that can limit your choice of cards in the future... specifically the newest ones as many of them with good cooling (like you'd want for your GPUs) will extend past 12"/the board.

Remember, in a perfect folding world, the goal is to be the most efficient and most PPD... 2000 series cards are not where it's at, and you're only investing in more. I still vote you sell your current cards and get something modern that gets more PPD and uses less power.

My goal is 2 2080 Ti Rev.A cards. They are good PPD cards and right now I am trying to find one at $200 or less and I want the blower version like the PNY. 2 them will do more PPD the 1 4070 S.

They are high PPD (and high wattage). But according to the PPD database...

2x 2080 Ti = ~11.5M PPD @ 500W
1x 4070 S = ~13.4M PPD at 220W

.... one 4070 S beats 2x 2080 Ti's.

An ounce of patience gains 15%+ more PPD, frees up a slot for another card, and uses less than half the power.

Anyway, for the case, you should be fine, but its size will limit your choices, so keep that in mind. Enjoy!!! :)

Thank you for the info. I have to think about the money also if I can get another 2080 Ti Rev.A I'll do it. I know the 4070 S is a good card that's why I am getting it for my gaming rig. When I am not gamming, I can run the 1 4070 S at night for F@H.

I agree that going with 4070 supers. If you keep an eye out on Facebook marketplace, some deals can be had. I snagged my 4070 super for $425 and the dude threw in 32gb of ddr5. Will cost less than half as much in electricity to run as well. You'll also have better resale value down the road and will stay relevant longer. Just my advice.
I agree with @EarthDog on the case. Looks like it will do the job okay but might limit you in the future.

I don't do any social media at all. $425 is out of my price range. And as I have said the 4070 S I am buying is for my gaming rig. When I am not gaming, at night I can F@H with it.
Post magically merged:

The 2080 Ti Rev.A is Length: 11.89 in - 301.925 mm so it will fit the case in my first post.

I just want to reiterate the plan that was hatched in the other thread. I know things are a little different now... but then you had $300 and two GPUs to sell which would have bought you a 4070 S to fold with. Then when you got your second 4070 S for the gaming machine you could have 26M @ 440W instead of 24M @ 720W (2x 2080Ti's + 4070S).

Again, not trying to 'force' you into anything... just making sure you're aware it's just as viable as it was 2 months ago when we mentioned it and worked out the math. The only thing holding you back from doing it is you. ;)

Understandable. At $200, 2080tis are good PPD per dollar without factoring in electricity at least.

Also, just a heads up, @KeeperOfTheButch and I will probably have some 4070 supers for sale after the 50x0 series cards are available. Probably be able to hook you up with a deal. So might be worth waiting on the second 2080ti for now 😊

:nono: that was then this is now. Like I have said 2 2080 Ti's Rev.A for folding 24 hours a day & 1 4070 S for my gaming rig but during the night when I am not gaming, I will use it for F@H. EVERYONE UNDERSTAND NOW?????

I might take him up on that depends on the price though.(y)

We understood that before even posting here, lol. We're just trying to share the most efficient route for the most PPD. If your way is jamming old power-hungry cards in a machine for it, we aren't here to stop ya! :)

Ohhhhhhhh............. dreamy. Hopefully the forest becomes more focused than the trees. ;)

FWIW the last few builds that I did with Zalman cases turned out pretty OK. For budget cases they aren't bad. Look into Rosewill as well. I like them a bit more and on the same budget. I would recommend replacing the stock fans with higher quality ones. Noctua Industrials, MSI Silent Gale, Cougar Vortex, and of course Delta's if you can source them , are my go to's.

Good luck with the build!

Thank you and yes I am installing new fans. (y)

I feel like most of us just got trolled, lol...

When this thread was created yesterday, it was about a MONTECH case with a link to it. Today, I came back to see Blaylock mention something about a Zalman(???). I look at the first post and see hours after the thread was created, the OP switched cases and pictures up of a Zalman and fans.

@Flamethrower1972 - In the future, just update in the body of the thread. If you're really feeling saucy, you can edit the first post too and maybe say some words that you switched (switched to XXX in post ##), or link the post with the update there.

Anyway, as far as the NEW case in the first post (Zalman Z7)... to me, it feels like a downgrade for its use case (F@H). That chassis does not look like it has great airflow (at least compared to the fully open Montech) and the plan is to shove TWO 250W cards in there and ask them to run as cool as possible. The Z7 also has the same GPU length limits (12"/305mm) and will limit your options just the same (you saw that yesterday). If you're riding these cards hard folding all the time, you'd want them to run as cool as possible.

While I'm sure the new case will work, airflow-wise it feels like a step down from the Montech (regardless of the cheap fans you want to buy with it), and with the fan purchase, you're spending more money (literally 50%/$30 more). If it was me for F@H, I'd stick with the Montech to keep those hot, power-hungry 2080 Ti's running cooler and living a longer life.

9 fans is not good air flow? Its just a F@H rig so the top of the line is not needed by a long shot. Tell you what with all your great knowledge tell me what I should get.

GAH!

So, after looking at the images on the Zalman website (b/c the image is tiny AF in the first post...), the front of that chassis is NOT solid and does allow for good airflow. It will be fine. You're still spending 50% more for no reason, but it should work just as well outside of the GPU length limit.

If the front of the Zalman wasn't perforated like that for airflow, YES.. JUST LIKE I SAID. But since it's holy like the Montech, it will be fine. You're just paying loads more for...................I'm not sure what you're paying more for. :)

That amount of money is jack :poop: It will serve its purpose. And work just fine for me BTW I run all my fans at 100% for years the GPUS also no problems and good temps don't care about the noise and my girl is used to it now so it's all good.;) BTW have you ever used their fans so quick to dismiss as trash:nuts:

You're putting words in my mouth. I said they were "cheap"... which means inexpensive. Low-price. Economical.

You're buying six fans for $40. I think most of the fans that Blaylock listed are all well over $20 each. So yeah, what you're buying is cheap inexpensive (does inexpensive offend you less?). How do they compare specs-wise to some of the better fans he listed? I'd guess worse (CFM, pressure, noise), but they'll still be fine.

EDIT: As you said, it's an F@H rig; there's no need for top-of-the-line things... you just misunderstood my meaning and wanted to rumble, lol. ;)

This was the case I was planning on getting just for a fold box. Comes with some fans, large 140mm fans, intake fan filters, room for tall air coolers, has lots of room for large vid cards, E-ATX, and inexpensive.
