If you are running a Geforce 6 series videocard, download this driver now!!!
(The only other acceptable option would be the use of the 75.90BETA's for risk takers amongst you)
I see more and more threads with people complaining about low scores - only to find that they are running antiquated or superconservative drivers! Wake up and update people! :bang head

Grab them here and feed your need for speed: 71.90WHQL

With any of the drivers above 71.2X series I would keep getting this weird screen flicker issue. Im going to stay with the 71.20 driver set for now.

just tried these out...got my second highest 3dmark05 score to date, and much more stable than the others. My highest score was with 75.90, but in-game performance was bad..

These, I like. :þ

i thought nvidia makes reference drivers that work with everything

the driver is the same for my tnt2 and my geforce fx5500

or is this something they changed for the new ones

most of their drivers are designed as across the board updates, but the flurry of 71.xx drivers of late are made to push the 6xxx cards harder.
They are basically the old drivers for the fx line etc, but adding new support for the new cards.

pretty good drivers, dont seem too special though. gaming is smoother with these then 66.93s for sure. little jump in 3dmark as well.

nothing to wet myself over though. :)

why is it that these drivers make the card run hotter? was using 66.93 earlier, idle temp was around 61 degrees on stock cooling, now it sits around 70

I wouldn't recommend the 75.90s. They are TERRIBLE. They caused my 6800 to IDLE at 59C when its @ stock. With the 66.93 or the 71.90, I idle at 44C. The 75.90s also give you terrible gaming performance, the AA sucks, and its just a unstable driver, I guess that is why they call them betas :-/

Typically you won't see a revolutionary performance increase when upgrading your drivers. It's all a gradual incremental improvement - and improvement nonetheless! You also get the latest features and bugfixes which is a godsend if one of your favorite apps is on the fritz. :bang head
It's rather curious that certain drivers result in such high temperatures. I suspect it either has to do with the diode being read differently, the chip MHZ/Voltage throttling being improperly (if at all) applied, and how aggressive their implementation of power saving features such as individual region shutoff within the core (trickle down from the laptop variants).
Regardless it's great to see nVidia leaking out WHQL drivers for the Geforce 6 series at such a clip. And yes, the 7X.XX drivers are Geforce 6 series compatible only...

just broke 18,000K on 3d01. with stock core/mem using 71.90 . My AV was still on too!

actually 18,086K!

guys, the temp thing is JUST A BUG. YOUR CARD IS NOT RUNNING HOTTER. it happens to me as well. what you do is use coolbits to increase your core by 1 mhz. then wait for the temp to drop back down. then you can return to your normal speed if desired.

well so far i've tried it my scores didn't really jump as high as i expected, mine came from 13028 3d mark 03 to 13098 hey more is better right i give it an A

These drivers are very solid. Cant say the same for 75.90. For those of you looking to use that driver...DONT. Kept bsoding my PC

I just installed these drivers and two good things happened. My 3D05 score went from 3650 to 3984. That's almost a 10% increase. I'm actually suprised by such a boost from just a driver upgrade. I was also having a problem Alt-Tab'ing out of games back into windows. When I would do this in Half life my machine would flip out. Now the problem appears to be solved. I recommend these drivers for anyone with a similar issue.

IQ seems to be better....

not sure about performance yet.

however, CSS Aztec bug on grass remains....

Since installing my 3dmark03 score went from 8329 to 8030 :( and my highest overclock changed from 579/1.18 to 582/1.16
