Are we doing this race? When?

Yeah... I wonder the same. The thread started 1.5 months ago... And I'm going to (I think) shut down all crunchers around July as my friend have to a major new installation at the university...
So, I say as in celebrity deathmatch, Lets get it on...

After receiving a reply from Sir Ulli, it seems that there's been some problem with the rules and some complains of the teams to get better rules for this gaunlet. So, any input you can give us about the rules of the gaunlet will be appreciated.

well out if the rules in the first post of this thread the only thing i can see people whining about is no caching. i say keep the no caching rule... its utterly pointless to cache for the race. it just indefinatly increases the time frame of the competition and increases the lead that a higher output team will have. it is better if they do not get this additional opportunity to increase their lead, because then the underdog(s) have a better chance of actually catching up. this is whats called A RACE!!!!! not a sandbagging work unit competition. ;)

other than that i have no idea what there is to argue about as far as the rules, perhaps you or sir ulli could post the concerns that are apparently floating around and posponing our races. :-/

I don't see the problem with the rules as seen in this thread. Sir Ulli is a little busy this week so let's see what happens down the road. I'll keep you posted about it.

yes a big Problem is about Caching, i and a lot of others agreed that cashing is not Good for a Race, but other Teams dont think so

so look here

http://forums.teamphoenixrising.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14166

and all the sides

the people of the Planet will not agree a Race with Caching

and only this Teams are about to be in a Race

TPR
LWD
CO Team

when all Rules will be clear, I can also look at this Teams

http://forums.anandtech.com/categories.cfm?catid=39

http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/seti

and at a few more

Good Look and Happy Crunshing with the New WUs to all

Well as I said, caching before a race is not a race. It would be like if the drivers at the Indy 500 could just show up whenever and start driving around the track to whittle down some of those pesky laps before the race even starts. :p

PS. Wow, thats some serious [email protected] trolling in that first thread you linked.

The longer we wait to begin a gauntlet, the more caching that the unethical teams get done.

Is there a way that daily dumps in execss of the users weekly average for the past few weeks could be excluded from the gauntlet?

Or should we just give up on this whole concept?

LWD and TPR have worked out a few rules to make it more fun:

The Last Dance:
  • Start: 15 June 2003 00:00:01 UTC
  • End: 30 June 2003 23:59:59 UTC
  • The Winner will be decided by calculating (Race WU's)/(Ending Total Racing Team CPU Time - Starting Total Racing Team CPU Time).
  • If you join during the race, advise how many WU you currently have when you announce IN THIS THREAD that you are joining.
It was not easy figuring out how to make it fun, competitive and doesn't-leave-a-bad-taste-in-your-mouth, so we hope it ends better than other races. Caching is moot, we expect it won't help or hurt. Can we begin?
