I am new to overclocking, however I have read a lot of what people have posted... You can't really overclock work computers :D. Just bought a barton 2500 1 gig twin pc3500 Geil ram, vantec aerflow, and antec sonata case. Well I have had my barton over 2.5 ghz(hey its my first time) however I notice my ram does not run in ddr mode. Would i be better to forget dual and overclock it too? Just trying to put up some good numbers for my first time.

Thanks,
Andrew

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

one of the first things you'll notice about overclockers.com is we like newbies (i don't agree with that term though). you should never get flamed here (flaming, incase you don't know, is when people say things that are rather rude to you on the basis that you don't know as much as they do), if you do see such posting i can guarentee that member will recieve strong words from the mods here :)

on to your question...
congrats on the overclock, anything over stock is good :D running in dual channel hasn't proved to be very benificial with the current technology. most people agree that unless you can get your ram to run in dual channel with no problem it's generally not worth the trouble to get it to work. i think you would get better performance by overclocking the ram higher then to try running it in dual channel.

btw, DDR = Double Data Rate. Dual Channel doesn't have an abbreviation that i'm aware of yet. just trying to help you get the compugeek lingo down ;)

Yea I missed the dual. It says DDR when I boot regular speed unclocked.

motherboard is abit nf-s 2.0
barton 2500+
1 gig twin pc3500 Geil ram
vantec aerflow
antec sonata case 380w ps
128 meg 8x agp Asus V9280-TD TI-4200
120 Meg ata 100 wd 8 mb cache(was going to use serrielle sp?) but wont fit in my case)

As for being flamed. It is all good I am a 4x4 nut as well and post/read on pirates of the rubicon board(mostly read), they have no quarms flaming newbies :D They want to protect their boards and ensure only the best are there.

Thanks again :D

on the NF7-S you have to use the 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 3rd ram slots for dual channel to work (the 1st slot is the one that's closest to the processor). i have a NF7-S, i used the 2nd and 3rd slots and dual channel kicked in.

good luck :)

mine kicks in if i dont oc. Once i try to set the fsb to 200+ i just get the reg ram refernces no ddr before the value of ram.
