What is the best motherboard and cpu for a total of aprox $100?
I will be doing little to no overclocking. I just want a stable system. I would like to be able to use my old sdram.

Oh I don't know....maybe a K7S5A Pro & a XP2100+...........

That would certainly be the best choice from a performance and future upgrade potential perspective. However, not so sure about stable...

If you want something that cheap, and want to use your SDRAM then you're looking at something old. For socket A, either the SiS 735 chipset on a m/b with both SDRAM and DDR DIMM slots (e.g. K7S5A) or something based on the Via KT133A chipset (SDRAM support only though) are probably your best bet. Another alternative would be something like a Tualatin based Celeron on a m/b like the TUSL2-C. Nice and stable, with decent performance but not as good performance as a socket A solution and with no upgrade path at all.

As far as stability.....the early K7S5A's were trouble for me but the systems I've built with the Pro's gave me no problems at all.....seems ECS improved on them a bit......

IF you want cheap and stable.

I would get K7S5A and a 1.6 Duron. CPU + MB + Fan would be about $90.

You can still us PC133/PC100 ram. This wouldn't be a bad upgrade from a sub 800Mhz machine on a budget. IF your old machine is faster I would spend more or wait longer.

Here's some stuff that might interest you. It's $25 over budget but thought I'd throw these out there. I've used sdram before and ddr is alot faster I think. You could sell the sdram on ebay to recover some loses.
