Instead of the normal wire trick for vid pinning why not use a conductive pen to connect the pins on the cpu or from the back of the motherboard. The wire trick is ok but its not permanent. This way you can mod either the chip or board without having the wire job fall off if you remove the cpu. I am about to get my P4 rig up and running so I might give this a try. I just need a conductive pen now. Any thoughts?

A buddy of mine has an AMD and one of those conductive pens. I thought about borrowing his pen and doing that too, but after one look at the closely packed pins of those socket 478 CPUs and I lost interest real quick. Maybe if you could connect the pin holes on the socket? Besides, I like the idea of being able to remove the wire in case I want to sell my CPU at a later date.

If you have ever seen the L1 bridges on an amd you would think its not that hard to connect a P4s pins. If you use a pin to connect them I bet its doable. I wanted to add dipswitches to the back of the mobo but the pins dont stick out.

Hmmm, running those wires out of the socket holes and then to a dipswtch sounds risky. How do you keep the other pins from making contact with the wires? I don't see how you can make that idea work unless I'm not understanding your proposed method correctly.

The pins would be too close as mentioned, another thing is it would be hard cleaning it without bending pins. With the AMD L1 bridges, you can at least use tape to cover it up so the conductive paint doesn't get all over the place..

I assume this is for the P4S333-M that you PM'd me about Bender? Were you not able to get any specs for the voltage regulator?

Taking a closer look at my socket 478, I can see why you'd be reluctant to VID pin it. that would be a serious PITA, you would need *really* small wires, at least half as small as for a socket 370.

The only other choices I see are:

1) Disassemble the s478 and put the wire internal.

2) Voltage regulator mods.

Good luck!

Madman this is for the P4S333-M motherboard. How tough is it to take apart the socket? I really don't know what I should do. Those pins are so tiny and probably way to easy to break off.

pacino what do you mean by "I glued by wires"?

I'm guessing that he meant when he wire wrapped the VID pins that he glued the wire to the pins (by=my) to keep it from falling off when he inserted the CPU into the socket.
