Get yourself a Linux installation and play with the command line. Best way to learn is through practice. Also, have a look at any books on bash (if using command line) or UNIX/Linux if you want a general overview of the OS.

There is a program called Cyg-Win that emulates a unix terminal on windows. I haven't really used it much, but it sounds like an ideal setup for someone who wants to learn without jumping in right away. Try a google search, you should be able to find it.
