I finally did it, about five minutes ago I clicked "confirm order button" and now have a Tyan dual processor board on the way along with another XP1600. This was followed by a quick stop at the Crucial site for the appropriate RAM.

Computer show this weekend for another case and I'll be busy next week.

This box will replace the old FIC AZ11 with a 650 T-BIRD that's averaged about 10hrs/WU, it'll give me a nice boost in production.

What else am I going to have to do to get into the "TOP 50"?

Wish me luck!

Welcome :) I'm about to order my first a7m266 and see how she crunches with a pair of 2000's. Pretty soon I'll have my farm streamlined to just a few dual machines.

it would be nice if i could find a duallie board at a reasonable price here in Australia
only place i can find retails for about $600 Aus ($300 US)
what a rip
looks like my next system will be a single.

great work Frank
youll get there soon enough!

You guys tell us how these dualie system do Ok?

I'm very curious myself, and like TC, I'd like to streamline my
setups to something less...um, noisy?

Well I don't know how much you want to overclock that P4 (when we fix your smashed mobo LOL) but you don't need that delta jet engine to keep it happy at 2400. If you want ultra quiet the swiftech q power is probably unmatched in quality, performance, and noise. It's expensive, but I will say that I have yet to see anything that approaches the quality that Gabe has. I've been buying from him since '98 and his quality is second to none. I'm using his latest water block on my 2.2A and it keeps that baby at 90F under full load with an ambient temp of 74F. Getting back to his latest kit - you simply cannot hear it when you're about 5 feet away. The greatest noise is likely to come from the power supply.

I am curious myself as to the A7M 266 D I have been eyeing those up lately the only thing I am a bit taken aback by is the fact the MPX Chipset was not able to be released with a sufficently working onboard usb built in? That kind of raises a red flag in my mind, perhaps I should wait on a board such as that until USB comes on board and not in the form of a PCI Card ? Just my thought on that, what do you guys feel about that?

I only have one usb device, so I couldn't care less about it. It is kind of odd that this has been an issue for more than one brand though. That would point to the chipset imo, but they didn't ask me ;) I plan on trying it out and I'll post my experience.

for my limited experience w/ the A7M266-D, it seems quite good for me. and i don't need any onboard sound nor USB connection for it. it's mainly a cruncher + as a server for my home network.

the 'only' thing i've noticed is clock for clock, it IS slower than a KT266a mobo!

my 8KHA+ w/ [email protected] is 'bout 20mins(!) faster than my A7M266-D dual [email protected]!! both have the fastest timing, etc..

is it normal for a dual machine crunch alightly slower than a single machine?? btw, i have try to just install a single CPU on the A7M266-D to test it out tho....too lazy and can't afford the lose of WUs from the second CPU.

just wondering....

Wolfs right. It's all about how two processors have to share
memory and how fast that sharing goes on the MPX boards.
I've been readin so much my head still hurts!!

I don't like the add on USB thing. Nor do I like the fact that I can't
run GeForce 3s without a BIG FIGHT.

I'd like to have these machines for more then just SETI crunchers.
Sorry guys, but I have other things to do with my CPU cycles then
look for ET! I have audio recording and video editing, and
hopefully some 3d rendering if I can get off me arse and learn
some softwares better.

I need a good 3d video card to work in these environments!
I'd hate to have to toss $400-500 at a dualie board only to
find out it's only good as a cruncher!

Here is an example of one of my works that was for a contest:

Not the best, but hey, it'd make nice wallpaper!

Looks good although between the Tyan and the A7M266-D I heard the Tyan is a much more powerful board.. Check it out here

Fill us in on the results Frank! :D

I only see a red X. And Lonely I know you are a gamer, why not just use the ATI Radeon 8500. I kicked the crap out of the Geforce 3 Ti whatever with it. I even get over 300fps in quake at times. Normal is about 200something. That would solve your Geforce 3 problem. I still got my Geforce 2 GTS, and I am going to see if I can get 300fps out of that ;) I have found a new hobby guys...opps there goes seti cycles. Oh I too am thinking about duallies Morgans only thing I could afford after selling two systems. Prolly the Celeron and P3 500. If I do though it will be a tearful goodbye.

Thanx for the props guys. Hopefully I will have more coming
once I get this farm together.

Especially since I don't quite have the cash to do anything more!

Excellent news. You definately have to do the volt mod for it though...helps tremendously.

I just got done doing it to both processors on my main rig and a pushing 1.85V through both of them. Have my XP 1600s plugging away at 1.63GHz and a 155MHz bus. Seems to really like it there too.

Also had to max out the vDDR to 2.7V which is no big deal. Looks to be shaving about 15-20 minuts off my times on this rig now.

Probably will pick up the parts to do my other one next week.

This is all considering you go with the Asus MPX board though.

EDIT:

Just noticed you went with the Tyan. Still an excellent board and will surely give you, and the team, a huge boost in production.

What's your VIO/VIO1?

I have mine incredibly high to run stable @ 171fsb. 3.1 VIO1, and like 3.7VIO to be exact. I have a huge fan blowing on it, so it's cool.

Default for both. These boards have scarce overclocking options. Surprised it even allowed for extra memory voltage.
