Ok, im getting the Giga-byte K8NSNXP-939, and will eventually set up a RAID-0 on it (2x160 Seagate SATA)...

BUT the Nforce3 SATA Connectors are in an orkward spot on the MB...will there be a performance difference between the 2 controllers????

Use the Nforce3 - It's just as fast if not faster than the Intel 875p

INTEL!??!??!??!

i would never defile my computer by putting anything close to a P4 in it... :p

My MB has 2 SATA-RAID controller on it (so, 4 SATA connectors)...for Nforce3 ones are in an orkward position (right next to the AGP port) but the Silicon (Silicon Image sil3512 controller ) ones are in a good spot, down where all the headers etc are...

So is would there be any difference in the speed/whatever in using different ones???

LOL

I have the exact same board - gigabyte nforce3 ultra.

Use the Nvida Raid - The SI raid is running on a PCI bus meaning only 133mb/s while the nvidia is on the southbridge meaning its running at 150mb/s.

I'm using 2x 74 gig raptors on the Nvidia Raid 0 with fantastic results.
When you install it, make sure you load the drivers on a floppy and load both drivers (nforce raid, nvidia controller)

I meant that it's faster than the intel IC5H-R southbridge raid 0.

Good Luck - Use the Nvidia.

k, thanks....i was sorta hoping you would say there was no difference.....i have a Thermaltake GiantIII on my graphics card, so im not entirly sure i can even use the Nvidia connectors...but i saw some 90 degree SATA connectors...i might see if i can get some of those!

There is no southbridge, only one chipset the NForce 3-250 ultra.
The Nvidia Raid controller controls both the 2 SATA drives and 2 ATA drives at the same time,in otherwords you can use 2 Sata drives and 2 ATA drives at the same time on the Nvidia raid controller( ie raid O+1 ),and neither one goes throught he PCI buss. The only thing that goes through the PCI buss is the hardware pluged into the PCI slots. The silicon image raid controller controlls 2 SATA drives and does not go through the PCI buss either. :bang head DOUG

i don't really care about the intel RAID controller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. I don't have it
2. Im not going to get it

I just asked a simple question....will there be a performance decrease if i use the Silicon RAID Controller instead of using the Nforce RAID Controller....

ITS A SIMPLE YES OR NO ANSWER PEOPLE!

I'm curious if there was a difference on your board when you used the SIl3512 controller over the nVidia controller. (I do realize this thead was dead, but I don't like to see unaswered questions :))
