After formatting and OS install. I went to install my drivers. I installed the nforce2 driver package. and after installing the nforce IDE drivers....my optical drives/hard drive is recognized in the device manager as...

"ST340810 A SCSI Disk Device"
"HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4120B SCSI cdrom Device"

IDE Controller(s)
"nvidia nforce IDE controller"

Why does it do this? they are IDE devices not scsi. Im not complaining either...these nforce IDE drivers gave me a 600 pt increase in pcmark2002.

After reading your post I checked mine out of curiosity and guess what>? Thats right, mine says the same thing, SCSI. ??? I can't compalin. My Maxtor 80 gb. 8mb cach 7200 rpm HD runs pretty good and of course, quiet.:) I might be wrong, but I think it has something to do with the increased bandwith due to the dual channel memory controllers. I think?

--Splinter-- The dual channel memory controller is strictly for the system DDR RAM.

I too notice that they're recognized as SCSI drives. I haven't really tested for any increase in disk performance. I personally think it's b/c the IDE drivers aren't WHQL and Windoze doesn't recognize the devices as IDE b/c of that. I don't really know.

I just had Winblows crap out on me...again:mad: When I reinstall XP I'll run w/o the nVidia IDE drivers and compare it to my previous PCMark2002 HDD scores, compare links to come as soon as I reinstall.

Oops, forgot to add that I have run into problems with XP calling my Lite-On CDRW a SCSI burner, especially when updating the firmware on the burner and with Roxio not recognizing blank disks after the firmware update.

When you installed the nForce unified driver package, and elected to install the "IDE SW Driver"...by doing so, the driver lists all your devices (HDD's, CD-ROM's, DVD-ROMS, etc.) as SCSI and can cause the problems noted by NeoGeo. In Device Manager, check to see if under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" there's an entry called "NVIDIA® nForce(TM) IDE Controller"...if there is, and you'd like to revert to the generic MS driver, you'll need to 'update' the driver to "NVIDIA NForce MCP2 IDE Controller" (which is the generic MS IDE driver, but included with the unified driver package).

Double click the "NVIDIA® nForce(TM) IDE Controller" entry | "Driver" tab | "Update Driver" button | "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" radio button | "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install" radio button | If "NVIDIA NForce MCP2 IDE Controller" is shown under "Devices", then you can go ahead and select that, then the "Next" button...otherwise select the "Have Disk" button and browse to the following folder:

C:\NVIDIA\nForce\WinXP\2.03\IDE\WinXP (This is the folder that the unified driver package extracts the v2.03 driver files to...if running under XP, and having installed the 2.03 driver package.

Locate the nvhdc.inf file (this is the "NVIDIA NForce MCP2 IDE Controller" .inf), and select "Open" | Reboot for the change to take effect. The nvidesm.inf file (which is located in the same directory as above), is the "NVIDIA® nForce(TM) IDE Controller" .inf.

If you're not experiencing problems with your CD-R or CD-RW, I would suggest using the "NVIDIA® nForce(TM) IDE Controller" driver...as CPU utilization is normally lower with this driver than it is with the MCP2 driver. ;)

I just ran PCMark2002 and Sandra HDD benches. Scores are within +/- 4% of the previous scores with nforce IDE drivers installed.

I can't publish scores, so I've included a screenshot of the difference:

Did you not have the IDE drivers before? i think that when you install the nforce set, it installs that driver automatically.

The 1102 score is a previous benchmark with the nVidia drivers installed and the 1146 score is recently w/o the nVidia drivers installed.

Maybe someday nVidia will WHQL their IDE drivers, perhaps in the next release. I ended up installing them since I bought a different burner and hopefully won't run into any incompatibilities.

Its an error in the drivers themselves I was told,it will probably be fixed in the next driver update,if there ever is one. :(. I think im gonna revert back to the old driver.I dont know if this can damage hardware or not...I would also like to have access to my IDE settings like DMA for example.
