I have been waiting for a deal on this setup for a while now. Found it at amazon.com. They had the cheapest price for the camera body itself and almost the best web price on the lens. excluding the scam camera sites of course :sly:

Nikon D300s 12MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) - $1,499.95
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JCSV6M/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR II Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon DX-Format Digital SLR Cameras - $798.00 (now 10% off 769)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JCSV8A/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

Total after $250 Instant Discount = 2018.99 w/ free 2 day shipping (those with prime, $7.98 for next day shipping)

Cheapest alternatives were:

newegg: 2,399.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830113225&cm_re=d300s-_-30-113-225-_-Product

bhphoto: $2,299.95 after the $250 instant discount w/ next day shipping

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/635648-REG/Nikon_9740_D300s_SLR_Digital_Camera.html

Buy.com: 2,199.99 Free Shipping bing was at 4-7% (if buy could guarantee the 7% cb, then it would have been 2-3 bux cheaper but not 2nd day or next day)

I can't say for sure whether that's a good price for that camera, but I can say that the amount of money you're quoting there should buy a lot of camera. A 200mm lens would be schweet!

Have you come across any decent Canon deals in the $200 range? I have a small waterproof fuji I bought to hold me over, but I'd like something a little higher quality for decent pioint and shoot stuff. Having shutter and apature control would be a big bonus, but it's rare in that price range :( . [and finding cheap cameras to hack using the chdk firmware is getting tougher by the minute]

havnt been looking for any p n s cameras. Canon did have a deal on the 55-250mm lens if you bought it with a camera. i believe the combo deal ended up being cheaper than the camera by its self.

Until I sell prints on a more regular basis (haven't sold one in a while despite having a cart active for a while) I just can't justify the expense. Of course, the argument can be made that with a better camera I'd have better shots... and that's assuming I have money sitting around to invest in such a way.

it is a pretty decent deal!! for whoever bought this deal and no need for the 18-200 VRII, PM me, I would like to buy it from you! ;)

Oh yeah... Who needs an 18-200mm lens

@The guy looking for something cheap:

I picked up my Sony A200 for like $375 on clearance. Came with an 18-70mm lens (most DSLRs only come with 18-55mm).

Right after I bought it they finally put D40s on clearance for $250-$350 with lens.

So you might want to find a place that still has D40s laying around. You could get lucky.
