okay guys, here's the situation....

i have an a7m266-d with dual xp1800+ processors.

first time i turn it on then i get no cpu in cpu0 and an 1800+MP in cpu1. first thing i think is a dead/burnt cpu. this is not the case however. upon swapping the cpus over then i still get no cpu detected in cpu0 and 1800+MP in cpu1. both cpus work on their own in single setups. i have built 3 other rigs that are identical to this one and they all work fine. has anyone come across this before and is there a solution to this other than an rma.

should i try linking the L5 bridge to make sure this is not an xp/mp problem? btw the right L5 bridge is not laser cut so i don't think it is this.

cheers for any help,

SamJ

You can try checking out the www.2cpu.com forums,, a lot of people are having the same kinds of problem lately. Which revision is your Mobo? I also heard that if you disable the onboard sound, it helps.

it is a rev1004 board. disabling the sound doesn't help :( would be very interested if someone has solved this problem (obviously!). do you think this is a problem with using xp chips? weird thing is, in the bios, i can look at the temp of cpu0 and it is within 1deg.C of cpu1.

It seems like only people with Rev 1004 are seeing this. What steppings are you using?

I would triple check your L5's.

chips are 1800+ xps code AGNGA, K, week 48. with regard to the L5 bridges, the middle 2 are cut (i think) but the important one on the right is not. i am not sure whether it is joined though from memory, but will recheck over the weekend. problem i have is i bought the cpus and mobo from the same supplier and the supplier phoned me up telling me i should get mp chips but i said i'd like to keep the order as it stands. i guess i have thus invalidated the warranty on my mobo even tho this may not be the cause of the problem. the order included 3 mobos and 6xp chips. it is only on one machine that i have this problem:eh?:

cheers for the help,

SamJ

Have you tried using the CPU's from the other ones that are working on the one that is causing the problems?

I have an AGOGA and an AGKGA in my dual and it is running fine.
Rev 1003.

Sometimes XP's just can't handle SMP. I had an AGKFA cpu that wouldn't want to work in SMP and someone else told me it worked for them,,, who knows,,,

The only way to tell is to test the CPU's from the other systems.

from all i've read and done with this system now, i'm sure it is the mobo that is the problem. i will be rma'ing this soon hopefully :(

seems the rev 1004 is extremely buggy and loads are having to be returned due to problems such as the ones i am having.

cheers for the help audiman,

SamJ
