use the new Start Menu ? or use TweakUI

EDIT : or go to Display Properties, click on Desktop, click on Customize, and play with what you get there

Yeah, that is where I looked before.

Oh well, I just removed all the icons in the Unused Icons Folder. I left a few (recycling bin, ie, aol, and wmp).

You can use the Group Policy Editor to...
  • Hide and disable all items on the desktop
  • Remove the My Documents icon from the desktop
  • Remove the My Computer icon from the desktop
  • Remove the Recycle Bin icon from the desktop
...and a number of other items (as long as you're logged on as Administrator)

Start | Run | Type gpedit.msc and press OK | Navigate to the following branch...User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Desktop ;)
