before you send your mobo back, first make sure the keyboard works on another computer.

Is the bios not finding the keyboard or your operating system? If it works when in the bios editing mode, but not after booting I'd make sure it's enabled in the bios. I have seen boards that allow you to select USB keyboards and turn off the PS2, etc. Some might let you turn both off...

thanks for the help guys.

the key board works fine in another computer, I even tried a different keyboard as well.
it's a bios/motherboard thing. it's like the keyboard is just not connected. i cannot set the cpu parameters or anything because i cannot enter setup. i have reseated the cpu and ram and will try one mre time before i send it back.

It may be that one or more of the solder points at the mobo/keyboard connection point have been pulled away from the mobo. Use a magnifying lens and have a good look for broken traces or loose solder connections. If you notice any broken traces I'd take the mobo back to where you purchased it.

This is often born with the BIOS option for the A20 gate. Try toggling it from fast to normal to see if this eradicates the problem.
