I've tryed to do the xp 2 mp mod 5 times. ive scraped pealed off and scraped and added more and still no luck... im trying to get the chips to look like this; L5 . |::| (well they actuly look like this, the L5 is at the other end; .|::| L5)
what on earth could be wrong??

Are the chips green? If so, you actually need to lightly sand/scrape the top of the contacts of the bridge, as there is a thin covering over all the substrate of the chip, which prevents conduction.

Yes it does.

I would advise filling the pits too, some people have gotten away with it, but better to be safe. Also, what are you using to 'paint' the bridges?

a needel (spelling?)

not tryed filling the bridges ill try that tommorow since its 1/2 11 im off to sleep now im scared that im guna brake sumit.
how would i go anout compleatly geting paint out of a pit or does it matter?
Ta DanFraser
just realised ur uk too:D

i've heard of ppl frying their ram when they don't fill in the bridges. You may want to fill them in, and try new ram.

You need to let the paint dry a little while. How long depends on what it is you're using. Defogger paint dries real quick, about 10-15 minutes. Silver conductive paint takes longer. I usually give it an hour or two, just to be safe. If you don't let it dry long enough, it can peel back off the contacts, when you give the CPU some juice.

I suggest filling the pit or painting around it. I also suggest scraping the contacts lightly with a needle, if you haven't done that already.

When finished, put in one CPU at a time and boot up to the OS. Watch the BIOS POST screen to see if the CPU is recognized as an MP. This is generally enough, but if you already have Windows installed, boot into it and use WCPUID and make sure that each CPU is listed as an MP.

iv checked the resisistence of the paint today and its off the scale at 20M ohm... guna try to find some thing diffrent to do it.
i also checked a big bloob of the stuff on some paper that was 35K!

I had same problem, It took me ages to get this right to connect the last L5 bridge and it basically cane down to I wasn't scraping the pins deep enough. Use a pin and scrape till u see brass, paint on conductive paint and one guy here suggested putting a small amount of sticky tape over the join. It worked first time after I did that so I havent touched it. Dont paint over the little valley and if u must fill it in first with wax or something.(crayon shavings)

I just splodged in the pit, with the XP1700+s I have now, and with the 1600+s I had before.

There does seem to be some sort of gunk on the contacts: when I was blowing the bridges on my 1700+s to make them into 2100+s I had to scrape the contacts a bit first before it would work.

At first I thought the voltage wasnt great enough, but after scraping it, the sparks flew, and I had myself a pair of 2100+s ;)

A buddy of mine actually had this happen. The unlock didn't work the first couple times, and just gave up, and used it that way. The pit had conductor in it, and a month or so later, *poof* - the ram actually burned on one side for no apparent reason.

actually... i was mistaken in my first post.

When you mod the L1 bridges, you need to fill in the gaps with a non-conductive material, but when you are modding the L5 bridges for SMP, you don't have to fill in the pits. I didn't on either of my xp1600's, and they worked on the first shot, and have been for about 6 months now.

Same here, no filling done, but there are still risks that can happen. It is always wiser to go round the pit, or fill it to be safer.

I had this problem last night.. CPU0 is recconized as a AMD Athlon(tm) MP 1800, but CPU1 I think isn't MP'd.. I'll have to go re-do it in a few minutes :( I really need the power of the duallie :)

Oh, and I couldn't get it unlocked AND MP'd.. It just wouldn't work.. I think I'm going to XP2100/2200+ these chips soon :)
