Hi i just purchased parts from newegg and im having a really big problem getting this system to work. I put the whole thing together and when i go to power it on i dont get a post, just a blank black screen. All the fans are turning on and i was able to open and close both cd drives.

I have tried:

-Reassembling the whole thing.
-Powering it on with just the essentials.
-Made sure the heatsynch fan was connected and working
-made sure the 4 pin CPU power and MB adapter were connected.
-powering it on with no ram and with no 3d card to see if i would get beeps but i didnt.
-Checked to see if the speaker that beeps worked. and it did. with my old build.
-resitting the porcessor and the heatsink.
-re-setting the CMOS by takin battery out and holding down the spring under the battery with a screw driver for 15 seconds.

My build is as follows

-Q6600 (DOA CPU???)
-Corsair 620 watt PSU (Compatible power supply???)
-8800 GTS g92
-Gigbabyte p35 DS3L MB (DOA MB???)
-2x2gb stick of g.skill pc 6400 (2gb sticks can be culprit???)
-Old thermal take xaser case
-20x burner and a dvd rom drive.

I spent about 14hrs troubleshooting, building and rebuilding this build but no luck. i finally got fed up and called newegg saying i wanted to return everything. Now that its been 2 days and im a bit more calm i actually decided i wanna stick with it and try some further troubleshooting. I would like to start off by RMA the MB and CPU to get a fresh start with those 2 and i was also thinking about replacing the ram b/c i hear if the ram isnt compatible with the system it might not post. I have heard people using g.skill pc6400 but the 1gb sticks and i have a feeling that maybe the 2gb sticks might be causing a problem. I would REALLY appreciate any help with this issue. Thanks in advanced to everyone who replies

Yes the jumper is in the correct place. Is it even possible that a MB would come out of a retail box and have the jumper miss placed?

I had a similar problem on my old P5N.

I think you may have gotten a DOA mobo. Not too common but, unfortunately, it DOES happen...

Just a possibility, but have you tried booting it up with only 1 stick of ram?

I think if there was a bad stick of ram, there would be a nice CMOS beep code to tell you that. No, I think youve got a DOA mobo there.

Not true.

My old system, I was running 2x1gb sticks of Buffalo Firestix (rated for 2.0v) that would not boot from a fresh CMOS reset. I always had to pull 1 stick, set the voltages, power down, then insert the 2nd stick.

It could be the same for his system since hes running 2x2gb sticks which require more power.

Yes. I forgot that bad RAM sometimes doesnt provide any beeps. This happened to me when I put my stick into slot 2.

Anyway, try g14's suggestion and try each stick individually. It can help single out bad sticks and you can also try and raise voltage.

You can also shove in a generic stick, bump the juice up to 2.1V or something then try again...

Also remember that he got no beep codes by removing all the ram.

Thusly, I will agree that it is most likely the mobo. RMA it, looks DOA.

BTW, I must say that your post was well written, and kudos on your troubleshooting and problem description.

Ahh, thanks Dice, I didn't see the part about no beeps with no memory...

That definately sounds like its the mobo then.

And, like Dice said, thanks for letting us know what you've already done and given a description of what went wrong. This could have been a VERY drawn on topic if you hadn't.

Their seems to be alot of topics floating around of "my system doesnt turn on when I press the power button, help me" with no hints of what they've tried...
