Hi, I am new to the board and to cooling and all that fun stuff.

I just built me a new computer system. here is the list...

Abit IC7-G MAX II motherboard
P4 2.8 800FSB
1GB Kingston HyperX PC-3200 DDR
Asus Nvidia fx5900 Ultra 256mb
WD 80gb 7200rpm HD
Plextor CD-RW
DVD drive
Vantec Fan Controller

My main question is what is the best way to setup the fans. I read a few post about blowhole and such but I am not sure what is best way to get the best temp. Right now the way I have them is
2 Rear Vantec Tornado 80mm as intake,
1 side Tornado 80mm as intake and
2 front 80mm as intake. (The two front are not tornados they came with the case not sure what kind they are.)
1 80mm tornado at top as blowhole like some have suggested in posts i have read.

At Idle with this setup and the tornado fans on low through the fan controller my temps are SYS 28c, CPU 37c, PWM 30.5c.

I never let them run at highspeed for long enough to see how it effects them but I figured if these are good temps then I do not need to run them at highspeed unless I am making the computer do alot of work. Are these temps good for idle or should they be lower? Any input you have is greatly appreciated and sorry for the long post.

the rear fans would probably function better as exhaust fans. what case do you have?

The top fan in the rear is intaking the exhaust from the PSU. If you want to run those fans intake you need a chimney to move air up and away from where the intake fans get air. check this link, I am only talking about Part B http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/index...et.com.au/show_product_info.php?code=CP-BAS80 All you are doing is blowing in hot air. The idea is to blow in cool air and blow out hot air. I always consider my PSU as an exhaust fan. Your temps seem o.k., but if you over clock and really push your system, every degree will count.

I disagree with the standard philosophy of equal number of intake/exhaust and so should you until proven otherwise in your case
It's not that hard to add/remove/reverse fans and see how your temps vary.
Also, I would pay less attention to your idle temps and more to your full load temps and the difference between the two.

I think that your current idle temps are fine and if you can keep the rise under load to under 5 degrees, you'll be set.

I switched a few fans around, I now have 2 rear exhaust and the top exhaust and 2 front and 1 side intake. It dropped the idle temps to sys 25c, cpu 34c, and pwm 27c. I then ran 3dmark to get a good load on the cpu to see where it goes the cpu temp went up to 44c and the sys stayed at the 25c it dropped to and PWM went to 35c. Is this a safe setup and is it normal for the cpu to go up 10 degrees at max load?

Is you load temp at full load? 100% in task manager. With HyperThread you need 100% CPU usage to get a true FULL load temp. Do you have Prime - 95? THE FANMAN:cool:
