HAve been told (correct me if I'm wrong) that the Radeon 8500 and the 9100 are pretty much the same...

CAme across a good deal today but was for a non LE version..I don't really know what LE stands for other than Limited Edition? Is there really a big difference performance wise between LE and non LE?

Yep 8500 and 9100 are basically the same card

LE means Lite Edition I think. This means that the clock speeds for core and memory are "usually" not as high as the standard 8500/9100. Clock speeds seem to vary by manufacturer and batch and there is no standard for what the clock speeds for an LE have to be.

not in a million years, the only difference in this case are clockspeeds thus you can overclock the LE to nonLE speeds and they will behave equal... nvidia does SEVERE crippling on the mx line like 1/4 of the pipes, directx7 support only... basicaly a crap card with the same name of the good ones

Not even close.

Architechually, they are identical. EXACTLY the same.

As has been stated umpteen times, the only difference is that the LE originally had lower stock clockspeeds. As long as they come w/ decent ram, the LE's overclock above and beyond the stock R8500 core/mem of 275/275.

I currently have both a 8500LE and a 8500 non LE. The non LE default speeds are 275/275 and the LE 250/250. So you would think the non LE is quite a bit better but my damn LE can OC to 300/310 while the non LE wont do more then 285/285. kinda irks me that I spent quite a bit more for the non Le hehe.

The LE gets about 400 more points in 3dmark2001 due to the higher OC, otherwise they are identical it seems.

LE means "Legacy Edition" and the difference between a LE and a non LE is that the LE is clocked slower than the non LE and as well, the LE lacks dual monitor support since it is missing the extra ramdac.

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!

and sorry to mess up your party but its not legacy edition, is lite edition indeed as stated a few posts back, check atis site
