We've been redoing our entertainment set up in the living room and i was thinking of sticking a system together for the living room.
I tried this once before and got a core v21 case because it "seemed small", its not. i'm gonna stick that system up on craigslist and sell it. So this time around i am trying to do some actual research to get a nice tidy case.
I was mainly looking at around $65 or so and something that stands on end (tall/skinny), but of course something not too tall
I started out looking at this: Cougar QBX
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...r qbx&cm_re=cougar_qbx-_-11-553-020-_-Product
Liked the full sized atx psu (cheaper), not a huge fan of ITX only (more $$$)
and then this: TT G3
https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-...hermaltake+g3&qid=1549743787&s=gateway&sr=8-1
Liked the mobo support (cheaper) didnt like the SFX only (more $$$)
and then i thought eff the budget for a case apparently and started considering this: Shift
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...t&cm_re=phanteks_shift-_-11-854-067-_-Product
BUT ONLY if i can shoe horn a standard ATX psu in the non x variant (looks possible but that got me in trouble with the TT V21)
The system doesn't need to rip my face off with power but i want it to look nice so aesthetics are a big part which is not my usual build style.
Not much of the specs are set in stone other than i have to be able to use full height cards, that no negotiable, and want it to stand tall but of course still smallish of which i am a horrible judge at.
rest of the system is about as loosely set, its a mix of spare and new. Starting out life with a Athlon 200GE, R9 270/270x, some amount of nvme ssd, some sort of semi modular psu, cheap AIO cpu cooler probably 120mm (240 is it fits), an amount of ram as big or greater than 8 gigs.
some of you are probably thinking what the heck with the system specs, its mainly an emulation station for my disc based games so i can cut down on the clutter in the living room and not have a bunch of different systems hooked up at once when 90% of them have no digital out it makes for a bit of a wiring mess, i have a different ever changing setup for that mess if i want a more "pure" retro feel (see CRT/RGB)
Plus if i want to do some PC gaming out there i could probably figure something out with my main PC (2600/gtx1080) and steam streaming.
quick n dirty pic for idea as to what i am working with, still a work in progress:
