First time I'm trying DLSS and Image Scaling together because the 4070ti DLSS works with a 1440p screen.

What I noticed is that if I enable DLSS in game, it negates the Image Scaling settings I have in NVIDIA 3D settings.

I read that the two work together? Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

With DLSS enabled in game, I get much higher fps but the Image Scaling sharpness doesn't engage. If I disable DLSS in game, fps drops by about 50% but Image Scaling engages...

Testing this in Ghost of Tsushima.

Thanks for input.

One or the other I always thought...why someone would enable permanent scaling, I'm not sure...

Adjust dlss in games.

Note, I don't use dlss as I get plenty of fps. No point.

I like image scaling because it makes things sharper, for games only.

If you want sharpening, why not use the dedicated sharpening option? I'm not 100% the best way to get to it but NIS probably isn't the way to do it since it usually comes with pretty awful scaling. If you use the nvidia App it is under "Game filter", and it was also somewhere similar in GFE.

OP, are you referring to DSR + DLSS? Thats when you apply upscaling and downscaling to the same output. Image scaling is a cousin to DSR.

Image Scaling. I posted a screenshot. I do have DSR enabled in NvidiaCP but in Ghost of Tsushima there's no option to choose the DSR resolution.

Yeah image scaling would be applied if you are not using DLSS, but using native graphic settings. Think games that are DX11 and older. Use DLSS and FPS targeting to enable dynamic scaling, this will give you a more fluid FPS experience at the cost of visuals. Think Youtube auto resolution setting while watching a video.

To change sharpness of the image you can use DLSS global sharpness settings or use https://github.com/emoose/DLSSTweaks DLSS Tweaks to help manage independent game settings.
