i wanna try to o/c my K6 from 500Mhz to 550 ( 5.5 * 100) at 2.2v
when starting booting win98 it makes a general proctection error so i reboot and change the cpu speed to 500 ( 5 * 100) i shut down the Pc
3 hour later i power on it @ 500 since the computer freeze every time i boot to win98 or linux or on a floppy
now the cpu work only at 400Mhz ( 4 * 100) it can t work faster

i buy it 15 days ago
i had o/c the cpu less than a minute
the fan is a fop32 ( for duron)
the mobo is a GA-5AA

do you have any idea or suggestions ?
thanks

Try running Scandisk and Scanreg on your computer, they are both DOS programs. If that doesn't work, reinstall Windows as it was probably corrupted during your short overclock.

generally, if youre computer is running stable at 400mhz, and only crashes when you increase cpu speed.....sounds like a processor/heatsink problem....if it was windows problem, it would likely crash at 400mhz too.
is your heatsink approved/working properly? did you make any video/system bios changes?

electromigration can become a problem, which will degrade a cpu . but generally, we are talking older cpu's.

hope you figure it out. if youre like me, youll not stop to overclock!
check all your jumper settings etc.

Something like that happened to me as I tried a too high voltage.
My computer was crazy and could not even post (CPU fan and HD tried starting but without success).
I went back to stock voltage and stock frequency : same problem. I thought I fried something.
I removed power cable for 2 hours and underclocked my CPU at 250Mhz with very low voltage and it started again.
Then, step by step, each time with power cable off, I raised to stock speed and then to my max overclock speed.

Suggestion : when changing anything in your jumper settings, remove the power cable.

If you want to overclock your K6-2 500, you'll have to raise voltage to 2.3v or 2.4v.
Don't expect success with stock 2.2v.

thanks for all of your suggestions

I had remove the power cable.
on my mind win98 isn't corrupted because i am using it
the voltage jumper ar OK
the cpu coolling si OK

now , i have made test and i think that the cpu bugs when the cpu usage is hight, so @500Mhz, when i boot on a floppy it' ok , i launch some commands like dir, cls on prompt there are no probleme but when i try
to launch bigger executable (like amiflash) it freeeze...

yo man
I agree with the dude wot reckons it a heat problem
I got the same mobo as you and a k62500 and a k62+550 and the 500 will pull 632.5mhz but thats pushin it
from what you say it sounds like you have a cooling problem did u use a thermal transfer paste on the heatsink base or was it fitted with frag tape check and see cause it makes a big difference to your cpu's temp's if it's fitted with either frag tape or the orange foam type stuff head for your electrical component store and buy some heatsink paste or thermal transfer compound the best is artic silver (get the one for large area's for the k62) use a small amount on the heatsink base spread out as thinly and evenly as possible and when you fit it to the cpu put it in place with a slight twisting action this gets any air out from under also when you have problems as discribed go into your bios setup as you boot up and into integrated peripherals and you'll find a section for cpu temp. and cpu core voltage etc. take a note of what these are also take a note of these when you first use your pc so as to get a baseline to work from
do your overclock in small steps and take your time making sure that it's stable before proceeding further
your k62500 if it's recent will easily go to 600mhz but if you only want to push it a little bit then it'll live forever at 550mhz to get the best and most reliable perfomance at this speed try for a 5.0 multiplier and a fsb of 110 mhz @ 2.3 or 2.4vcore or for an older k62500 2.5vcore keep checking your cpu's temp.
good luck man

post it up and let us know
