Overclockers Folding@Home Team Spotlight #88
by dfonda

Our Overclockers.com Folding@Home Team has been running member spotlights for quite some time – this is the 88th feature in our series of Folding Spotlights!

Thank you for the interview GIXXERGUY6!

Dfonda : When did you join the Team GIXXERGUY6?
GIXXERGUY6 : I joined the team when I first built my i7 back a year and a half ago, but it was not stable and I could not get it working. So I gave up for about 4 months. I have my rig stable and have been folding for a while on it now. (EOC stats)

D: If there was something recent that you did that you wanted your fellow team members to know about, what would it be?
GIX: Well as of 3 days ago I accepted a position with DirectTV as a service technician and should be raking in the money shortly(Smiling). That moves my wife and I closer to getting the house we want!

D: What part of the world do you live in, and if you don’t mind telling, what town?
GIX: I am from the Toledo, Ohio area. Its flat here and riding ATVs sucks! (Laughing)

D: How did you initially hear about F@H?
GIX: I heard of Folding@Home from our own OC Forums.

D: After starting, why do you continue to Fold?
GIX: I continue to fold because I know I am helping science get closer and closer to cures for diseases and other harmful things in this world. I also like the points, it adds a nice flare to the cause!

D: What do you do for a living?
GIX: I have gone from being a diesel technician (pumps, turbo's injectors, injection pumps). To working on motorcycles, ATVs, cars, trucks and jet skis as well as various factory jobs. Most recently I accepted the aforementioned position with DirectTV as a service tech. I feel I am going to be with this company for while to come.

D: What do you do for fun?
GIX: Well first and foremost, I spend time with my 19 month old daughter, Leah, but when I am not doing that you can find me on an ATV, or in a "Side by Side" climbing something or digging my way through mud. (Grinning) I also like drinking and hanging out with friends and family. Did I mention my wife April? (Grinning)

D: Time to spill your guts. What are the stats of your main folding rig? Why is it your favorite? What do you use the rig for?
GIX: Thermaltake vh600bws, i7 [email protected], EVGA x58 SLI LE, 6GB DDR3 PC12800@1600MHZ RAM, Coolermaster V10, Silverstone DA1000 PSU, Seagate 1TB and 500GB HD, Toshiba 105GB HD, Card reader, XFX 9800GTX+, BFG 9800GTX+, Galaxy GTS250. I use this rig for everything from editing pics to streaming movies to the LCD in the living room.

D: Do you have a Borg-Farm? If so, how many, and what are they?
GIX: I have to give thanks to Jason (jdsparks21) and Joe (not registered here) for lending their rigs for folding under my name as well. Jason's Rig - CoolerMaster HAF932, i7 920 @ 3.8, MSI x58 Platinum SLI, Megahalem with push/pull CoolerMaster r4 fans , 12gb pc12800 @ 1600mhz, BFG GTS250 1gb, OCZ 800w psu, 500gb sata drive, DVD burner
Joes Rig - I7-920 @ 4.0, Gigabyte ud5r, 6gb pc12800, Thermaltake Bigwater cooling, 1- 1tb sata drive, custom built into his desk.

Thanks for taking the time to ask me the questions. I've been busy with work, the daughter and recently a tornado that has ripped this area apart up here. Thank god my family and all our friends are ok but there were 7 people that lost their lives in this system and upwards of 50 houses going to be tore down and started from scratch, horses missing...you get the picture. So the latter of the above statement is why I haven't gotten you the pictures of the rig(s) you wanted before the publishing of this spotlight. On top of that I'm leaving tomorrow night to be out of town until Sunday night.

Ooooooooooooook anyways :D Thanks for the spotlight.

Glad to hear your family is alright.

Sorry to hear those folks lost their lives.:( We are real lucky around here, only 2 twisters that I remember in my lifetime.

When ever you get those pics, it will be a good reason for a bump!
