The durons are still pakcaged in the ceramic and can still be unlocked using a pencil :) They newer ones above 1 ghz use the new morgan core, which is a neuterd version of the palamino core that the athlon xp's use

Duron 1Ghz+ chips use the Morgan core, supporting SSE and other tweaks and optomisations, making them, MHz for MHz, nearly as good as Thunderbirds.

As for overclocking boards, I would say Epox 8KHA+. I have never had one but from what I hear they are amazing boards.

Good luck with the new system!

I have an AK31 for my XP, its also a great OC mobo

I know that someone has two Duron Ghz chips at 12xx - he uses them for folding

lol..I used to use both my machines for folding..was ranked #65 on the team, and 766 in the top 1000....but ive gone back to SETI

It would be really nice if you could put a rig towards folding .
We are getting beaten. Horribly. We have about 2 or 3 months before we lose 3rd place to team rage3d, we need all the help we can get.

In terms of design the athlons come either with 200 fsb, or 266 fsb which chip design is better for overclocking purposes...From what ive seen the durons are designed for 200fsb...?

yeah most only go to about 1.25 or so. get an xp they are so cheap a 1.4ghz 1600xp is going for 87 so I wouldn't get the duron unless you are just using the box for surfing and email. newer games are going to still run on the duron but not at 1600x1200.
