Total noob here
I have an old 2.0Ghz P4 processor and was trying to decide whether it would be worth it to buy a Athlon XP-M 2600 and a NF7-S board and overclock it. Would the overclocked AMD be faster than my old processor? Also if I do get the AMD and overclock it how long will the chip last before it burns out and I have to get a new one?

Thanks

The mobile overclocked to 2.5-2.7 GHz which it appears to be capable of lately would cream the 2 GHz P4.

Set the autoshutdown temperature in BIOS.

Get a nice heatsink.

Your AMD system will be still running by the time you yourself decide to upgrade to Athlon 64 one day.

If you watch your temperatures when overclocking gradually, the AMD combo will love you a long time.
