Ok well I don't really put in the time/effort to keep up with the latest and greatest anymore (haven't really even OC'd in about 4 years lol). Back in my days the 9800 pro's, and 6800GT/Ultras were kings (dating myself somewhat hehe). Basically I need to upgrade my computer some to play a new MMO (Star Trek Online). It calls for a minimum of a 7950gt and everything else it looks like my current setup has covered.

I wish it was as easy as just picking up a new video card (else I wouldn't be posting this :D )

Basically I need a new Video card, and I will definitely want to upgrade my PSU as the one I am using is very old and probably isn't that safe to begin with lol.

I am not looking to drop like $300+ on a video card, but I am looking for the most "bang for the buck". I am also looking to get a DEAD SILENT psu that is very small. I don't have a whole lot of room for my PSU because I am using a fanless Scythe Ninja setup that takes up a ton of room, and is already a millimeter away from my current psu.

I will probably end up using a Corsair 500'ish watter PSU as I used to have one in there before, and its size matched what I needed before.

Corsair 550VX will handle any single GPU and quad core chip so thats what I would go with.

As far as a video card, I would get something like the HD5770, HD4890, or GTX260 216.

with a 500w corsair you could probably run a 5770 that has dx11 and should blow the doors off star trek mmo. if you'd rather go with nvidia go with like a 260gtx 216..though the raedon will probably use less power. If you dont care about the dx11, get a raedon 4890.. has more gpu power but runs hotter and uses a little more juice, but should still work fine on the 500w psu.. unless you really wanna blow your budget and then id say just get a 5850 or 5870 (both 300+, edited after next post was made!!) that will kill that mmo and most new games out there but run very cool with lower power use

dang ed beat me to it!

Ok now I am looking at the HD5770. It seems to be everything and more for what I am looking for. My only problem is it only has 128bit? Isn't that pretty low? IIRC like the Nvidia 6600GT was 128bit, and that is a 4 year old card ><

Also what is this PCI-E 2.1? I don't think my motherboard has that, pretty sure mine is 2.0. Does that mean I can't use a 2.1 video card?

PCIe2.1? I havent heard of that, but the card will work on a 2.0 or 1.1/0 slot.

Its not all in the bits. This card is as fast as GTX260 216, but it has DX11 support. Its not a bangin fast card, but will play anything on your 1440x900 monitor and most things out NOW on your 1920x1080 TV.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's as fast as a 260GTX. More like on par with 4850. And 260GTX > 4870 > 4850.

If you can find one for $100, I would say grab it.

Other than that a good upgrade path would be a 5850 for around $280 or a used NVIDIA 260GTX / ATI 4890 for around $150.

The memory on the 5750/5770 overclock quite a bit to make up for the 128 bit bus.
