I grabbed an e6600 + MSI 945p-neo2 on black friday @ Fry's for $279+tax. It is suppose to come with crappy ECS board but the dude at the comp dep gave me an MSI board..but I wonder how this thing oc? Anyone got experience with this board? I am new to core 2 duo so I really have no experience with Ocing a core 2 duo. I have the old school PQI ddr2 on my sig..and I dont think this thing can oc that well. I tried booting up at 2.6-2.7ghz without bothering with the divider or voltage / timing on ram..but this thing refuse to boot. Any suggestions? I don't think this mobo is a good ocer but if I can get like 3ghz on this thing I'll be happy. I think I'm gonna try to run low speed on the ram and see how this thing works out when I get home today. Any suggestions would be apperciated thanks.

lol I'm sorry I am using an WRONG OLD account..I for some reason I was unable to edit my post..

anyways I have the PQI Turbo PC5400 or something like that..1gb x 2

i think that mobo, with its 945 chipset, would be lucky to hit 300fsb. that would give you 2.7ghz, but i think even that is a stretch.

your best bet would be to sell it, and try to get a cheap replacement, like a gigabyte s3. it will get you to 3ghz no problem.

IMO the ram is going to hold you back. What are the default timings? Can you loosen them to 5-5-5-15, up the vdimm & get more out of them? I didn't think you could set a divider less than 1:1 on a DDR2 rig. (must be a nice set of PC133 that can run ddr533 j/k - lol).

The board is the same chipset as the Gigabyte S3, which is a great overclocker. Is it a mATX or ATX board? It should do pretty good with better ram is it's ATX.

sigh, gigabyte is so damn confusing sometimes.

there are like 50 different s3's. that board had a 945 chipset, like i said, it would be luck if it did 300fsb.

if you look at this s3, it has a 965 chipset. that is the only chance you have of getting 3ghz. any board with a 945 chipset has a snowballs chance in hell.

It is me on the correct account (I'm the OP) I got it up to 2.6ghz..

With this setting it kills the network on my mobo or some reason..can't get on the net..I tried 2.7 and it won't boot..btw I couldn't find the cpu vcore in bios lol..only NB and dimm:bang head

Ok seems like this thing wont boot up above 290 FSB. You can't really change the Multi of the core 2 duo right? Well if not I guess I'm just gonna stay at stock for now :\

you'll need a new mobo like i said if you really want to get much out of it. the good news is, these chips are very fast, even at stock speeds.
