I've got a 750GB HDD + 60GB Vertex Plus SSD in ISRT.

The SSD encountered an error back in mid-December (just under a month ago).
Today, I get a message from IRST indicating that the SSD has failed again, and that the "array" is no longer operational (although the PC remains operational at this moment using the HDD directly).

Looking at the event viewer give me no more info. It just logs the failures from 12/12, and today. But there aren't any details in that event that seem the least bit useful (to me).

Seems that this Vertex SSD is a lemon. Anyone have any ideas of a better use for it, or for a way to make sure it does work correctly? How to investigate the failure to understand why it is failing?

Code:
- System

  - Provider
   [ Name] IAStorDataMgrSvc
  - EventID 0
   [ Qualifiers] 0
   Level 2
   Task 0
   Keywords 0x80000000000000
  - TimeCreated
   [ SystemTime] 2012-02-08T15:26:54.000000000Z
   EventRecordID 11104
   Channel Application
   Computer Wolf
   Security
- EventData
   Disk on port 2: Failed.

You could plug it in independently of the IRST array and check the SMART data. That might tell you something. If it acts flaky there I would just RMA it.

I un-ganged it, flashed it to the latest firmware, and have re-ganged it using ISRT.

I also updated the BIOS on my mobo to the latest.

If it still keeps failing, I'll have no other choice but to RMA is :p

Sounds like the right steps to me. I've had drives drop out of arrays on IRST when they go to sleep or other such nonsense, but if it was reliable for a long time and then started to fail more often it's probably some other problem.

Hope the firmware update gets it!
