I got home from college a few days ago to find that the box I built for my family is infested with some strange spyware program.

Any site you go to results in a popup attack- sounds like standard spyware infestation to me.

But, neither spybot or ad aware pick it up.

I have norton av on my laptop that reported a virus "spypop32" coming from the network- but pc cillin on the infected computer did not find it.

Any suggestions?

I'm guessing you have checked the add/remove options and the startup options.

I had an elusive program that would keep resetting the homepage to i-lookup.net. I finally just had to go to the advanced options of IE and uncheck "allow 3rd party extensions".

This may work for your computer too.. check it out.

I did a google on spypop32 and search on symantcs site and got no hits. did you read/spell it right?

If you post this is in Microsoft forum, redducc, will prolly have something for you.

ok i think the spypop thing was a false lead-
Ive used the machine more and apparently the rats are selling one of those BS spyware removal programs- by installing insidious spyware and offering the solution!!!

The site that the popups are originating is

http://default-homepage-network.com/

But I still cant figure out how to stop it.
Whatever it is, it has control over more than IE- its opening the cd drives and offering to fix the problem!- And then opening a notpad document from an "official consultent"- these guys are EVIL

Becase it has other accesses- it seems sorta trojan-like.

oh yeh my bro got that on my machine(he uses it too)
it made the cd tray open and stuff, but adaware got rid of most of it, since i knew the mai name of the evil thing i did a windows search for it and deleated what ever had its name it went away

this also happened toa comp ina lab at myt school, it had crazy bad spyware! you even thinked about clicking on IE and 5 things popped up!
